Re: Films you've watched recently
Saw two good films at the weekend.
A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square IMDB
Richard Jordan and David Niven in one of the last films he did. A bank raid caper based on a true story. Good little film.
The Martian - Missed this in the cinema but it's come round on Sky Movies and I watched it yesterday afternoon. Great film, liked it a lot. I ought to put up a sign at work saying 'In the face of overwhelming odds, I'm left with only one option, I'm gonna have to science the shit out of this.'

Re: Films you've watched recently
Found it easier to link my imdb when people asked me watch to recommend, had an account with around 2,000 ratings.. imdb database error made me start again.
1 year and over 200 viewings later..
http://www.imdb.com/user/ur61386348/
10 tell all
9 liked
8 good/entertained
7 eh/what ever the general rating rounded up, no higher then 7

I loved Martian, much to my surprise. Damon was excellent. Space pirate! LOLBig Kev wrote:Saw two good films at the weekend.

The Martian was great till the final rescue sequence, as most of it was semi-believable till then.

Yeah, the final sequence differed quite a bit from the book. They didn't really need to change it.

Saw "What we do in the shadows" recently which was surprisingly awesome. Mockumentary with Jermaine and Rhys from flight of the concordes

That's a great film EK - dry Kiwi humour.Exar Kun wrote:Saw "What we do in the shadows" recently which was surprisingly awesome. Mockumentary with Jermaine and Rhys from flight of the concordes

I watched Syriana the other day on a plane - I reckon that's a great political thriller. And also saw Our Kind of Traitor (Le Carre book) on the plane last night - pretty damn good film.
Also, since its the anniversary (and a controversial one), this is very good (got something in my eye towards the end):

It was a little while ago now but I watched Predestination and thought it was great, possibly the only time travel movie that's logically sound. I knew nothing about it which is the best way and was blown away.

Star Trek Beyond for me today. I liked it. Only one or two bad CGI's but it looked good on the whole. Best part was after the closing credit sequence, which was flying around the universe looking at galaxies, nebula ect... Walked out of the cinema 30 mins after sun set and saw Venus, very bright over a crescent moon through a break in some dark clouds.

I recently watched Wood Allens latest movie, Cafe Society. I rather enjoyed it, very Woody Allensk.

Re: Films you've watched recently
I've watched a load of films recently but these are the ones that stood out (i.e. I can remember them), so I would recommend them:
Lion
A little kid in India who gets separated from his brother. The first chunk of the film in particular is amazing.
Train to Busan
OK, it's a Korean zombie film but it really is so much more than that. Mrs durbs - who I fully expected to go to sleep as she doesn't really like subtitles or zombie films - got right into it from the start and was quite emotional by the end. Not just a really good zombie film; a really good film.
Moonlight
I didn't know anything at all about this before watching but it was highly rated so we gave it a go. I think that probably helped as I had no idea where it was going to end up. Very good.

Aquaman
No toooo bad. Best CGI I've seen for quite a while from all these Marvel and DC films. The underwater stuff was very well done. It's about 45 mins too long though. Some scenes are massively over long (yes you're going to Atlantis, we get it, it looks lovely in all its CGI'd glory, now will you please just get there!) and could have easily been cut down a bit. The main guy is well cast, Amber Heard couldn't act her way out of a puddle, and Nicole Kidman looked like she'd been ironing her face but apart from that the cast was pretty good although Dolph Lundgren reminded me of David Coulthard! 6.5/10
