I thought that too but you're finger is back there a lot. Mine is on my home button and it's actually more awkward. If like to try one with it back there to see how intuitive it is.Big Kev wrote:Having the fingerprint reader on the back seems a bit odd.

Re: So, the new Google phone...
LG have had the power button on the back for years and I really like it. I've got an LG G2 with the power and volume buttons on the back and it didn't take long to feel right. Your finger naturally falls there when you pick the phone up, so it makes a lot of sense.Big Kev wrote:Having the fingerprint reader on the back seems a bit odd.
The wife has just got the LG G5 with a fingerprint sensor on the back and it does work.

But if you have an elastoplast on that finger (or dont have a finger!) that probably makes it more awkward to authenticate with another digit.

Probably, but better that it's more convenient for the vast majority of cases than the exceptions, surely.

It's great on the back, you set up both index fingers.. It's quite natural..

Re: So, the new Google phone...
I have my index and middle fingers mapped for each hand and its surprisingly easy to unlock with the scanner on the back. Easier than the scanner on the front home key like Samsung and Apple have placed theirs. Only time I find it annoying is when the phone is on a desk, but then its swipe up n pattern for the unlock.Big Kev wrote:But if you have an elastoplast on that finger (or dont have a finger!) that probably makes it more awkward to authenticate with another digit.

Probably no different to having elastoplast on your thumb or no thumb for iPhones or Samsung's.Big Kev wrote:But if you have an elastoplast on that finger (or dont have a finger!) that probably makes it more awkward to authenticate with another digit.

It's awesome. So much better than on the front. I pick up my phone and my finger goes to it automatically.Big Kev wrote:Having the fingerprint reader on the back seems a bit odd.
Pull my phone out of my pocket it's unlocked when I look at the screen.
Only time it's not as good is if phone is on a desk and your not picking it up.

The new Pixel phones sound like every other with software assistant, and unlimited online photo storage. Initial pricing is just
Google store - Pixel XL 128GB outright - $1419.00
Telstra - 24 month minimum term. Minimum total cost $2904.00 https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phone ... e-pixel-xl#
This makes the GS7 look like a pretty awesome phone.

Yep, no way I'm paying $90/mo for a phone. Hopefully prices improve next year.

Good luck with that price point Google.
Slightly interested in a Daydream unit for my 6P tho.

Exactly, I can reliably buy the S7 for around $750 anywhere outright which is probably what I'll end up doing, my memory is hazy I'm pretty sure Google hardware doesn't drop in price for a long time after launch.KNAPPO wrote:Good luck with that price point Google.

Re: So, the new Google phone...
Even happier I grabbed the Nexus 6P for $8 repayments over 24 months now.
Im interested to try the re branded Google launcher (Pixel Launcher) but highly doubt ill use it long term as the customisation has always been lacking in their launcher offering.
EDIT: Just read Google is holding onto the new launcher for a while so I grabbed Nova and replicated the main features and look of it. Bonus is being able to mod more than what Google generally allows in their launcher.

Reviews have dropped and the consensus is that it's probably worth it's price when compared with the GS7 or iPhone 7.

Re: So, the new Google phone...
I guess that depends on how often you drop your phone in the dunny, but I do agree, it's a glaring omission when compared with the others. Going to try and get the Nexus 5 to last a few months longer and see if the prices drop a bit, if they do I'll probably grab one, otherwise I'll reluctantly buy another Samsung.
