The chat with Newey in the first one was fascinating. Could listen to him for ages.

Yeah I don't get the fuss around the Toro Rosso. It's one of the more bland liveries amongst the field. I struggle to like many of them with the god awful fin though.

For those who don't like the sharkfins, someone's shopped them all without to see how they look

Re: F1 2017 Car Launch/testing topic
McLaren can't complain about a lack of Honda power. Alonso just can't get on the throttle properly between Turn 2 and Turn 3 because of a lack of overall grip. There's plenty more of the old gee-gees available if the chassis was stronger - Gary Anderson

Ferrari beginning to look super strong. Setting fast laps on harder compounds and mostly looking reliable too. Going about their job in a very quiet way. Looks like the best car out there right now.
Don't know about Red Bull. I don't think they're as far off as they've shown but I don't think they're up for beating Fez and Merc wither.

I think people like the Toro Rosso livery because it's a the only big change in the field. Well there's Mclaren but that's poo.

Re: F1 2017 Car Launch/testing topic
Its really a tough one for F1.. I actually much prefer the engines now in terms of the action (aka high torque) compared to the V8's.. and actually I find it better trackside as you can hear the commentators/talk to mates.
They feel like they need the manufactures money to keep the sport alive, but know that the V8/V10's have very little to do with production cars.
The whole idea of hybrid was to be able to showcase On the flip side, the high cost/low upside (aka you could be Honda 2.0) in coming into F1 in this complex world of engines.

that's one of the things i like about the new engines. Initially i hated them but soon realised i could hear other things, talk to mates, and hear the trackside commentary. Volume isn't that important to me any more, i just wish they had a bit more character to them, but i haven't seen them since the first year so hopefully they whir and pop a bit more now.

Oh my god, you old farts with hearing aids needs, that doctored clip was fantastic, that made the 2017 cars, even with the stupid shark fin exciting. Good find!
And that second video, made me feel like I was getting blown by my dead grandma, empty inside lol

Re: F1 2017 Car Launch/testing topic
I agree with that. A lot is made of the volume but the problem for me is that there suddenly wasn't a sound that everyone would instantly recognise as an F1 car. The noise alone was almost like a brand itself, and I noticed even the FIA continued to use the old engine noises over their pre-race title sequence because it was so iconic.w00dsy wrote:i just wish they had a bit more character to them
I'd hoped the new technology would give us a new noise, like Tie Fighters or something, but it was like a muffled fart and to a blind man could have been any race series.
I went to Britcar 24 endurance race at Silverstone a couple of years ago and there was a Seat Leon that, for reasons I don't understand, sounded like it was tearing through the fabric of time every time it went past. It was awesome, and if a modified roadcar can do that, why can't they do something in F1?
For F1 to maintain its image as the pinnacle, it should feel, look and sound like nothing else.

Re: F1 2017 Car Launch/testing topic
Question to you blokes about the sound. What will you think when technology pushes engine manufacturers into wanting to move to say electric motors?
I'm trying to get at F1 seems to be following what these manufacturers are interested in and F1 wants to keep them interested in the sport.
