I struggle to keep any sort of decent FPS, makes racing difficult.

Overall it feels worse than I remember. But from what I can tell they basically started from scratch again in terms of physics engine.

BugBear Entertainment has released a new update for their Wreckfest smash ’em up racer formerly known as Next Car Game. The update contains a good number of fixes and optimizations and also introduces a new Rally Cross circuit you might recognize. Keep in mind that the track featured in this update is still a work-in-progress.

The patch also features further refinements to the tire model of Wreckfest. Besides the tire model also, the suspension system has been reworked. Both the tire and suspension tweaks should result in a more realistic and responsive driving feel.

In line with the physics updates, BugBear Entertainment reworked the gamepad and keyboard controls and implemented a Speed Sensitivity setting that should help you not to go over the slip angle of the tire.

On the graphics side, grass and shadow rendering has been improved and therefore, could have a positive effect on your frame-rates. Also, the performance of the dedicated server has been improved.

Bugbear Entertainment recently made live another new patch for their Next Car Game: Wreckfest title.

The late May update for Wreckfest focuses on several areas of improvement with particular attention paid to the car-to-car collisions - a particularly important aspect for a game designed around crashing into your opponents. The studio have created a more dynamic opponent reaction to contact with human players within the game, claiming car collisions will now feel "weighty" and should result in more dramatic response to contact. Be advised, this is early access and some further fine tuning and game tweaks could be applied by the studio before this element of the game is finalized.

Other updates included in the recent patch involve further refining of the in game AI, bringing a more challenging and aggressive opponent as well as adding more lifelike interactions with the track and other drivers. Expect to see cars spinning out and making mistakes on a more regular basis than seen in previous builds.

Following a slow few months development wise the studio seem to have made several positive strides with the game of late, bringing Wreckfest closer to the level its potential deserves.

Changelog below:
Added the 3Ds Max AI Geom Gen tool which was missing from previous update.
Added missing track cameras to Mixed 1 Reverse.
Fixed see-through track geometry and improperly placed props on Mixed 2 Reverse.
Added PSD templates for menu assets (event icon, loading screen, results screen, car icon) under mod example folders.
Increased racing AI aggressiveness: AI is now more inclined to try to ram the player or the other AI drivers if given a chance.
Improved racing AI: it’s now faster and drives more loose to give it a more natural edge.
Racing AI now reacts to being bumped or rammed by possibly losing control and/or spinning out.
Added graphics setting presets Low, Medium, High and Ultra (Settings > Graphics > Presets).
Added command line option ‘-disable_mods’ to make troubleshooting easier in case mods are preventing the game from launching properly.

WTF!!! How can you not finish it, if the sales figure &/or bankruptcy claim is true???
Despite earning the developer over $1,000,000 in its first week of sale, it would seem that sales have tapered off and that Bugbear can no longer afford to continue development.

They might have filed for bankruptcy but they continue to update it...?
Bugbear Entertainment have released a new update for destruction derby style racing game Next Car Game: Wreckfest, and it contains a number of key improvements including a new track and variant of car to enjoy.

The new update for July brings with it some updated thinking to how the car physics are applied in game, with work on the suspension settings, fixing some of the aerodynamic properties, improving gear shift logic as well as tuning the driving assists all aimed at bringing a more satisfying driving experience for players to enjoy. Alongside the many tweaks and fixes in the latest update comes a new circuit in the form of ever imaginatively titled Mixed 3 track, as well as a lower level variant of the European 3 car (looks like an Escort...) giving early indications of the direction Wreckfest is heading when a full career mode hits the game in future months. Bugbear have hinted that a career mode in Wreckfest will give gamers the opportunity to work through a game progression program, starting with lower powered cars in minor events until they work the way up to better events in more exotic machinery.

The full changelog for July's update can be seen below:
Added a new work-in-progress track, Mixed 3.
Added a folk-racing variant of European 3.
It now requires heavy hits to cause any damage to the chassis in case the body panels are almost or fully intact.
Low to moderate jumps no longer cause damage to the chassis health on landing unless chassis is in critical condition.
Health bars now display correct reading also in replays.
Improved car cameras and related effects.
Improved shifting logic for automatic gearbox.
It’s now possible to skip gears when downshifting (i.e. shift directly from 3rd to 1st, for example).
Improved Stability and Traction Control assists to make them more useable.
Exposed developer track data and trackside camera visualization, racing line adjust tool, and free camera for modded tracks.
Use the tilde key ~ (the key below ESC that resembles a squiggly worm) to access the developer menu and F11 to enable free camera.
Added an ability to set effects to panel release and unlocking (not used for official cars just yet).
Fixed buggy checkpoints on Speedway 1 and Tarmac 2.
Improved AI routes on a number of tracks.
Fixed rough geometry in the Sandpit 3 intersection causing cars to flip.
Added more grass to Sandpit 3.

From what I understand, they (Bugbear) never filed for bankruptcy. A 3rd party filed for bankruptcy (which can be done under Finnish law) due to an outstanding debt.

Already developing nicely through the Steam Early Access programme, Next Car Game: Wreckfest developers Bugbear Entertainment have revealed plans to bring the title to the console audience.
Due for release sometime in 2017, Wreckfest should be a popular addition to a console market that currently lacks a truly next generation destruction derby style racing game.

Although still very much in development for PC, this latest news could be very positive news for fans of Wreckfest. With many elements such as a proper career mode yet to be introduced, one would imagine an impending console port will positively influence the speed in which new features are implemented in Wreckfest. The game is already on very solid footing, with strong graphics and a sublime engine powering the advanced damage model, it should only be a matter of time until Wreckfest moves itself into more widely acknowledged circles. No further details regarding the console version of Wreckfest are available at the time of publishing this article.

In other related news, Bugbear have announced a new stunt driving game is in development, initially named (unsurprisingly) - Stuntfest. The new Stuntfest game with have a host of interesting and unique vehicles. Stunt cars will of course be available to drive on release, but the studio have also announced weird and wonderful wheeled items such as shopping trollies and even a mobility scooter will be playable! One of the main features of Stuntfest will be the ability to create your own environments in which to drive. From the Bugbear release promo:

Image
"Use Stuntfest’s ingenious built-in editor to create your own levels using the supplied gameplay rules and a huge amount of building blocks – track pieces, ramps, loops and all sorts of crazy contraptions ranging from giant toilets to crushing hammers, all designed for building an outlandish stunt challenges"
The new game will support Steam Workshop, allowing players to share their creations and download others unique takes on the stunt driving genre.
Initial Early Access release is planned for September / October 2016, with a full release due in 2017. Eager gamers can already pre order the title from the Bugbear website, affording the player different privileges depending on their level of investment.

Bugbear Entertainment have released a couple of preview images from the new WIP European Hatch car and track terrain updates.
It is worth noting that the team have stressed the picture of the European Hatch show a car still in "heavy WIP" status, with such things as fatter tyres and other racing specific details yet to be added to the car. The reveal of the WIP Euro Hatch and track improvements are the first sign of life from the developers since release of an out of the blue update back in late December, and at least show that things are progressing even if it is a tad disappointing to see reworking of current content, rather than a much needed new toy for us to play with.
Aside from the early preview of the racing variant to the European Hatch car, the team have shown off an admittedly impressive image of enhancements they are making to the current tracks found in Wreckfest. The detailing that has gone in to the improved curbs are impressive.

Today Bugbear have given players a first look at some brand spanking new content getting ready for deployment to the game.
The new track looks like it will be another crossover circuit, similar in style to the current arena based location, and will be sure to offer up some exciting crashes and online fun. Unlike it's arena based cousin the new track appears to based on a mixture of surfaces, with both dirt and tarmac viewable on the released image.

Today Bugbear have revealed another image of the upcoming racing variant of the Euro Hatch car found in the current build release. The Racing Euro Hatch is due to be a faster, flightier and alltogether meaner version of the current model, as can be seen from the image above. Now sporting wider racing tyres and updated styling, the Euro Hatch is sure to become a premium car choice once released to the general public.

Bugbear Entertainment have dropped a new update for Next Car Game Wreckfest, adding a new car and track to the game!
The studio have confirmed that development is underway with a new user interface and career mode for Wreckfest, however today's update is only focussed on adding new content to the title as development continues behind the scenes on the core game experience.
The update today adds a brand new car to the mix, bringing the American 5 muscle car. Although the car is still work in progress and more improvements and liveries are due to be added over time, it already makes a formidable competitor to some of the faster cars currently available.
As an additional bonus Bugbear have added a brand new dirt oval, including an alternate Figure of 8 layout. The new track is again a work in progress release, however remains fully functional and already looks at a highly advance state.
In a final content push, the already released Mixed 4 track has been substantially re worked and improved from it's original release status. Bugbear have paid particular attention to the track itself and immediate environment, with trackside objects still under, you guessed it, work in progress....

Bugbear Entertainment are continuing to push full steam ahead as they look to bring Wreckfest into a version complete status, continuing what has been a frankly on and off development cycle as the little development team push forward with progressing a title that is packed full of potential, even if it appears a little on the unfinished side at present.

Writing on the official Bugbear Entertainment blog posting, the developers claim something big is on the way as they promise an update release that is "by far the largest one we have ever created", and all before the end of the current year!

According to Bugbear the upcoming update will include the following highlights:
Many new cars, including front-wheel drive cars for the first time
Preview of the upcoming series based career mode
Polished tracks with all-new variants
New, enhanced HUD
Paint job customization
Better AI with adjustable difficulty
Improved vehicle physics and manual clutch
Mechanical vehicle damage
And a lot more

Dear Wreckers,
We're excited to let you know that the highly-anticipated December Update for Wreckfest is available on Steam!
This update represents a significant step towards the final release of the game, and what that means in practice is that this update contains a plenty of new as well as polished content and features in addition to a host of other improvements, the highlights being:

EIGHT NEW CARS
That's right – eight completely new cars, including our first ever front-wheel-drive cars, classic bangers, demolition derby heavy-hitters as well as something pretty unique! In addition to the new cars, many old cars have been refreshed.

PREVIEW OF THE CAREER
Two championships with many themed series – battle for championship points and earn experience, increase your rank and unlock new parts and cars! This preview is just a taste of things to come, with more varied series and challenges being introduced later on.

PERFORMANCE OPTIMIZATIONS
Better performance thanks to the new LOD (Level of Detail) models for all vehicles, optimized grass performance and collisions with dynamic objects, improved V-Sync for smoother framerate.

POLISHED TRACKS
Say goodbye to the old work-in-progress tracks.

PAINT CUSTOMIZATION
Customize your car with a variety of paints and liveries, also supported over multiplayer.

MECHANICAL DAMAGE
Engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes and wheels can get damaged in crashes, resulting in performance degradation. And yes, wheels now get torn off too!

VEHICLE TUNING
Adjust suspension stiffness, differential type, brake bias and gear ratio to suit your style or the track, even between every race – also in multiplayer lobby.

GAME MUSIC
Songs from the Audiodraft game music contest that you voted for are in!

AUDIO IMPROVEMENTS
Unique engine sounds for all cars, most completely new, as well as better situational audio, new spatial effects and improved countdown behaviour.

NEW, ENHANCED HUD AND USER INTERFACE IMPROVEMENTS
All-new, more modern HUD. New main menu and some cool neat functionality such as car icons that update automatically.

BETTER AI WITH ADJUSTABLE DIFFICULTY
Increased awareness and more variation in the driver profiles with some racing cleaner and some being more prone to making mistakes, as well as a difficulty setting that can be adjusted to your preference – try beating it on hard difficulty!

RIVALS
New work-in-progress feature: someone can become your rival by crashing into you, and you can earn bonus score by showing them who's the boss.

IMPROVED CRASHES
Crashes feel more vigorous than ever, and visual damage is improved.

ENHANCED VEHICLE PHYSICS AND CONTROLLER
Improved tire model as well as suspension physics and updated controller implementation for better handling and easier playing with a gamepad or a keyboard. Don't forget to test different assist combinations to find something you like - with no assists the game is meant to be more authentic experience especially with a steering wheel, while with full helpers you can simply pick up the pad and let it rip!

MANUAL CLUTCH
For the ultimate immersion – you asked for it, and here it is!

And those are only the highlights: the update contains plenty of other goodies, some more significant and some more minor, but we invite you to take a look yourself. These couple of last months have been hectic for us, and we hope you'll enjoy the update. There are still many little bits and pieces missing as you'll no doubt notice, but we were hell-bent on getting this update out so that you can already have a chance to check out what we've been working on and give us feedback that we can then use to fine-tune whatever you feel is wrong or off. In other words, don't forget to let us know what you think!
