As sucky as it was that I had to cancel my trip to Bathurst this year for the 12 hour at the last minute, it got even suckier for my mate who still went. After the race on Sunday, he packed up his gear and decided to head home Sunday night. Not too far out of Bathurst, his car decides to overheat and start leaking out all it's green coloured life juice. Contacting his roadside assist got him back to Bathurst town and having to get his card towed the next day.

Next day he gets his car towed back to Bathurst and contacts all 8 local mechanics of which NONE would help him out until at least Wednesday, good on you town for looking after the tourists. So poor bugger had to book a hotel room and is waiting until tomorrow to see what needs fixing, if it needs a part that isn't readily available, that's going to be more time he's stuck there.

So, yes it was sucky that I couldn't go, but it would have sucked more being fucking stuck there for an untold amount of days lol

On the plus side, by the time his car is fixed the track should be reopen to the public and he can do a lap before he goes home.

Yeah we arrive Friday lunchtime and leave Sunday afternoon.. What time depends on how close the race is and how tired my son is. It's just under 3hrs for me.

Hopefully the Laps Lead Chart is not headed by the Nanny Car!

Yes they have commented about a desire to reduce safety cars..

Let's hope the cooler weather cools hot heads!

First few laps from Chaz were sublime.. 1 hour in and he's already got a pit stop in his pocket.

Safety car has killed this race.. It's going to kill the entire event if they don't do something.

I just watched a clip of the incident and I would call it a racing incident, it was some aggressive driving but it was the tap from the porsche which started the chain reaction.

Fuck that was an exhausting weekend. I was at turn 2 and it was relatively quiet. The Ginetta left all of it's bodywork behind at our point!

Don't know what can be done about the safety cars. It's the nature of the place, nowhere is safe.

Two points before incident double yellow and engage pit limiter. Zero tolerance Black flag for non compliance. One point after incident green and disengage pit limiter.

Now if someone could tell me why this would not work I'd be very interested.

Add a mix of cars with vastly different speeds and drivers of vastly different experience .

You fuck up at Bathhurst and you are 100% off to the panel beaters..

This is what Muppet and I speak about for F1. This would fix so many issues and it does work as it's used at Le Mans.

The challenge is creating a gap so that recovery teams can use the entire track to park a truck across or whatever they need to do. Safety car does that perfectly. Code 60 style solutions do not.

Bathurst is very narrow with very little run off for a lot of the track and recovering a vehicle from, say the cutting, with a constant stream of cars, albeit at 60km/h would be much harder.

It's a tough one..
