Paint Protection

I'm buying a new car and got the call from the dealer rep (as usual, its a woman) offering paint protection. As she ended the blurb about how my paint won't be protected from bird droppings etc unless i get their ceramic paint protection, I asked if the paint was so susceptible, why wasn't paint protection standard? That put her off her stride...
