Garmin down

Post by DarrenM »

All their services have been down since yesterday. Including forums, call centers and email. No official confirmation but it's a suspected ransomware attack.

Found you can upload the .fit files direct to strava from the Garmin\Activities folder so at least yesterdays ride exists :)

Yep. It's so frustrating having to hand over your details and knowing there's a decent chance they'll be released to the world at some point. I got caught up in the massive MGM hack, along with over ten million other people, even though it was almost ten years since I'd stayed there.

Must be an absolute nightmare if you're a public or vulnerable figure.

I get a warning probably every 6 weeks or so telling me a service I use has been hacked and they have all your details.

Do we believe them: Garmin issues FAQ about mass outage | “No indication” of data breach
Garmin outage FAQ

Was any Garmin Connect customer data lost during the outage?
Although Garmin Connect is not accessible during the outage, activity and health and wellness data collected from Garmin devices during the outage is stored on the device and will appear in Garmin Connect once the user syncs their device.

I’m an inReach customer. Can I still use SOS and messaging during the outage?
inReach SOS and messaging remain fully functional and are not impacted by the outage. This includes the MapShare website and email reply page. The status for inReach can be found here.

I have a new Garmin product. When will I be able to pair it with Garmin Connect?
We are working as quickly as possible to restore Garmin Connect functionality. The status of Garmin Connect can be found here.

Was my data impacted as a result of the outage?
Garmin has no indication that this outage has affected your data, including activity, payment or other personal information.

As someone who works in IT, I feel for their IT team. Yes they should of secured it better, but no system is 100% secure.

The services are slowly coming back online. The rides I did showed up even though my device has been switched off. So it must have uploaded just not processed into the next stage of their system.
