Also the FIA actually only need a pipette's worth of fuel for the test (50ml or so) and they have that so why do they need 20x more to be legal.

I was going to ask, as our resident scientist about that. 1 litre to test seems like a shit load.

Maybe it makes them more likely to get a representative sample of what was in the tank? If they only took 50ml I could see teams putting in a dummy tube or something. Not sure they'd want to carry around a full litre for it and it would be harder to hide.

Yep I think representative sample is a good guess and also more to try if the test result is ambiguous. I'm sure most of the tests can be done on a couple of ml at the most. The testing equipment these days needs less and less material.

Was that the weirdest race you have seen? Well apart from the US GP @ Indy all those years ago but that was for other reasons.

Just so much crazy shit & much of it the fault of the teams not the drivers.

Aston Martin have confirmed they are pressing ahead with an appeal against Sebastian Vettel's disqualification from second place in the Hungarian GP.

In addition, the team have initiated a right of review request into the decision to exclude their car for a fuel rules breach as they state they "discovered significant new evidence" in the case.

The team argued there was still more fuel left in the car which was unable to be pumped out.
In their statement on Thursday night, Aston Martin said their data showed there was 1.74 litres of fuel left in the car after the race.
