The King's Hat

Post by durbster »

Is Australia as thrilled as we are about the upcoming coronation?

I've barely heard anyone mention it. There are a few houses in our village with flags up but there seems to be very little interest.

I think we're just looking forward to a free day off!

I'll stick the TV on in the background because we're very good at all that pageantry stuff but I'm not overly interested.

Only thing I’ve heard here is when the king plays cricket he likes to bat. Which is good because Camilla Parker Bowles.

For a new King, he looks tired already.

The newly crowned queen was smirking when she was about to receive sceptre as it's not the only royal rod she has touched.

My other half was pissed as she wanted to see the coronets and tiara's. But as no minor royals were there, it all seemed a waste as all that was not there. He was already king so why did he need to do it then? We figure if you were going to do it then show the bling, all in, because either way he would be shit canned. It was already going to cost a lot to do it.

I guess constitutionally he still has to be crowned. It was all quite interesting (and bizarre at times!).

Yes it might cost a lot but actually the Royal Family bring in almost double what we spend via tourism, spending in the local businesses, Charles owns most of Cornwall and employs a ton of people there, etc etc etc. I'm not particularly pro or anti royal but I do think they're value for money.

Only time I've watched a Royal event. Seemed fun enough. Don't really get the "It's wasting money" argument, like Kev said, that money's going back into the economy anyway. Just seems like an easy whinge.

Nice bit of pomp and circumstance, just what I'd expect from the poms.

Maybe if we had that level of spectacle for a new PM we wouldn't swap them so much.

Noticed Harry didn’t sing the national anthem. Poor effort that.
