ROME

Post by Nigel »

New show made by the same people that brought you Deadwood and Carnivale. Its pretty much the story of Ceasars rise to power. Its not bad. Give its time in history, there is less language use, but way more sex and violence. Sex wise, a good reference point would be Basic Instinct. Violence wise its pretty graphic.

I am yet to see it. Got ep 1 & 2, just lacking time to watch it. Currently on an Enterprise kick. Up to Ep 21 of Season 1.

ok

back from the TV now after watching Rome Ep1. Seems quite good so far and am looking forward to ep2

Did you see 'Legend of Earthsea' Nige? I could see some set similarities so I presume it was made by the same or some of those people.

Acquired a few episodes of this - it looks brilliant! I watched about 10 minutes of Ep1 to see if it d/l'd okay and the early battle scene is excellent. Shows Roman discipline in formation, with front rank soldiers being rotated through the formation and soldiers using the Gladius the right way (stabby-stabby). Lush. Looking forward to seeing more of this.

It appears that Channel 9 have got this for 2006. I wonder how much they will cut out of it. I expect it will be butchered with in an inch of its life.

I started watching this recently remembering your recommendation here nige and I think it really is quite good. It's interesting the way Romans of that time were so civilised in some ways but still so barbaric in others, they seem to convey this well.
I have to say the adultress wife (I'm hopeless with character names) is absolutely stunning, gotta love it when she stands in front of the doorway with that loose blouse thing she wears ;) The only problem though is sometimes she comes across as so british it kinda jolts me out of believing I'm watching real romans, still it doesn't ruin the show so I'm not complaining.
Good show I reckon

No I've been downloading the eps, I can't remember that scene in the first ep and I've deleted it already, you mean Niobe was rodgering some guy for a horse or was it another woman?

I'm sure you realised I was only joking Nige but after watching a few more eps I can see where the lesbo angle came from ;)
