Post by Bauer »

I just tried this sucker and really enjoy it. My style of race car and is sweet to drive.

ProtoRacer Championship Mod, for rFactor
===============================

Of course I want to start by thanking all those who helped me realize this project, (in alphabetical order):
James Burroughs (http://www.realracin.net/), Randy Gross, Ian.H, Kevin Kosiorek, Andrew Massey, Robert Pearson, Chris Rainer, revzalot (http://revzalot.zapto.org/), Julien Vidot and everyone at WGTL (http://www.worldgtleague.com/).

The first of the three cars, the Proton, is now released. The other two cars will be released as soon as they are ready. Please note that all the "ProtoRacer Championship" cars released in this mod are fictional, and any resemblance to real cars is purely coincidental.

Some datas about the Proton...
===============================
Layout: mid-engine, rear wheel drive
Suspension: double wishbone
Brakes: carbon
Seat: comfortable

Length: 4450 mm
Width: 1965 mm
Height: 1110 mm
Weight: 1000 kg (44/56 dist. F/R)

Transmission: six-speed
Engine: V8 Atome
Power: 407 kW @ 7000 rpm
Torque: 600 Nm @ 5000 rpm
Top Speed: ~310 km/h
Tank capacity: 90 liters

The Proton will be the slowest of the three cars but also the one with the most downforce. Every ProtoRacer car will do similar lap times at most tracks while having their own strengths and weaknesses.

The Proton uses ISI's V8 sound, if some of you wants to make new sounds for the Proton, feel free to do so and release them. But for anything else, except for car skins of course, please talk to me first.

ProtoRacer Championship, available seasons (for off-line racing)
===============================
-ProtoRacer Championship
Features the ProtoRacer cars only (Proton, Demon and Scorpio). Seven tracks including r400 (Orchard Lake Oval) where the AI have their own setup.

-ProtoRacer GTMX Series
Features all ProtoRacer cars plus the GP2 and GP1 (Howston), Ztype (ZR), GT1 (Rhez) and HammerCompR (Hammer).

Notes on night driving
===============================
Depending on your graphic settings and video card, driving at night can cause huge FPS drop. In your PLR file (that you can find in rFactor/UserData/(User_Name)/), there are two parameters regarding this:
Max Headlights="5" // Max headlights visible relative to your car.
Headlights On Cars="0" // Headlights illuminate other cars.

The first one (Max Headlights) determine the amount of headlights visible relative to your car. The second one, when put to zero, improves FPS a lot. "Headlights On Cars" is really the one eating all the FPS. So it may be less pretty to use a setting of zero for it but at least it's raceable. For replays and screenshots you can always change those two settings to really get good graphic quality.

The best way to gain FPS remains lower shadow and visible cars settings.

Colored rims
===============================
It is possible to use a different color for the rims of the wheels of the Proton. To do so, first take a look at how it is done in the "Moores" team directory. You'll see three files in there:
-BarryMoores_04.dds (car skin)
-BarryMoores_04.veh (vehicle file)
-BarryMoores_04rims.dds (rim color)

Notice the "rims" string added to "BarryMoore_04", it's by naming your rim color file that way that the game will recognize it. You can open this one in Photoshop or PaintShopPro to change the color and resave it under the correct name for your car.

Wheel upgrades
===============================
Chrome wheel upgrade is available. The gold rims will be included in the next update along with the second car.

Download
===============================
The download links (4) are located on my web site:
http://pages.videotron.com/rfrancis/

Note: If you have previously installed the FWD Open mod (Civic) from my web site, this new installer will overwrite some talent files since they share the same ones. Those talent files are not original (from rFactor), I created them. Those are the only files that could be overwritten. The installer is basically just an extractor (made with rar), no uninstaller or stuff like that will be installed.

You can also download the paint template there, in addition to some basic setups for a few tracks.
