My computer has died :(

Post by Righteous »

Woke up this morning, looked out the window, its raining. YAY! Brisbane are in need of a good bit of rain, so that was a nice start to the day. Had breaky and all that jaz, go to fire up the righty rig, system is a no go WTF! try again, still no love. MOFO!!!! So now, im stuck without a machine. SUXORS!!!!!!!!!!!

I have NFI what has happened, turned it off last night, all is good, go to turn it on this morning, nothing works. I really hope that it is the mobo, that is an easy cheap fix, but if its the CPU . I have taken it all apart in order to try an eliminate the faulty part, but its now down to either the CPU or mobo.

Any hints on finding out which it could be?

is it getting power?
ie: is your PSU working? (fans running)?
any 'beeps' ?

if the fans are working ok...

take out the cpu and turn it on - any beeps?
put cpu back in, take out vid card - anything?

try and rule out a few things. :)

Ive tried it with 2 differnt psu's same results.

When i turn it on without anything attached, it wont fire. As in PSU only. Fans whirls for about half a second in the PSU, then it stops.

When I put the CPU in it beeps at me.

SHould i put RAM in?

Ruhoh!! :(

Seems that it is the video card. noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have got an old nividia tnt 2 in there atm with only 1 of the 2 sticks of ram in it and its working. So its not mobo or cpu. But when I put in my 6600gt, no love. Strangley, when I put in the other stick of RAM it has a hissy fit and beeps at me. Ive tried both sticks seperatly and they work. I might tinker with the other slots, but that seems funny to me.

All the RAM is a go go now... Fark tempremental shits of things they can be. So it looks like my video card is dead. Havent had it 12 months, never overclocked it so.. I guess thats a case for warranty yeah?
