I had to take out a HDD drive bay to do it, but I sort of figured that would be the case.

If you'll excuse the pun.

I got sick of waiting for the price to drop and picked up a Asus Strix 1080 from skycomp for 1130.

30cm long. Nfi if it'll fit but I can also move a drive bay if necessary.

EDIT: Fits no problems. My current case doesn't have floppy or 3.5" bays in the middle so it's clear to the front of the case.

I'd done some benchmarks in iracing to check the performance at different pixel per display settings (supersampling) so I repeated them to compare. Using the oculus debug tool you can display the time taken to render each frame. Only way you can really benchmark in VR given the 90fps cap. 90fps = 11.111ms per frame, so anything above that is crap.

With the 780Ti
1.5x - 11.0ms
2.0x - 17.2ms
3.0x - 32ms

With the 1080
1.5x - 6.2ms
2.0x - 9.4ms
3.0x - 16.0ms

So as expected, around double the performance and it gets better performance at 2x supersampling than the 780 did at 1.5.

Haven't looked at clock speeds etc yet. Just running the latest nvidia drivers with default settings.

If I was thinking GTX 1060 vs RX480, I think I'd have to go with the Radeon just because I can crossfire them down the track if I felt the need, no SLI support on 1060 to stop it cutting the 1080s lunch.

I'll be buying the 1060 I reckon. Kid and budget and all that jazz. I'd it doesn't have SLI then so be it, haha.

I guess one way to look at it is, SLI is not too much an issue if DX12 multi GPU support takes off in games, you'll be able to mix and match cards from different brands if that happens.

People that have been buying the -60s have not been SLI'n as far as I know any way.

Explicit Multi Adaptor (EMA) is going to be huge..

Well I caved, picked up a Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1070 today for $770. Goes just like they say in the reviews, absolutely kills 1920x1200 which is what I'm currently running and should do similar at 1440 when this monitor gets replaced at some point down the track.

One issue I came across, using a display port to DVI cable was a bust with the old 27" Dell monitor, whenever there was large content changes on the display output the monitor would lose sync like the display cable was unplugged, I have a suspicion that the converter in the cable is not dual link which I seem to remember 1920x1200 needing, plugged it into the DVI socket and the 2nd monitor (1440x900) on a HDMI-DVI cable and all is good.

That is it Shonky.. some of the converters are not full bandwidth.

Been doing some work for an old Telstra buddy the last few weeks. Basically helping him sort out his new business network and helping him with domain names and hosting shit.

He has spent a shit load on PCs and some very fancy printers (https://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Professi ... mat/iPF770). I was going to get some big prints made up, until he rang me this arvo and said they ordered a few bits by mistake, including a gaming video card. He said I could have it. Hmm, not ideal, until I get a SMS.

Is this one ok for you? ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX.

I had to tell him they are worth over $700 bucks, so he is going to give it to me for $200. Win!!

I was going to wait for a while for a 1080, but hey, this should be a step up from the 970 Strix i have now. (I hope!)

1070's are awesome. Load any game and just throw all the settings to max. No troubles at all.

I am not going to push it Wobbler. I think I have done ok already.

The big question, what to ask for the 970Strix?

Shit hot norbs! Same opinion of my 1070 as R8, yet to find something to slow it down to where I notice.

There's nothing my 970 strix hasnt been able to handle at full ultra settings with more than enough frames to spare. Thats running one screen at 1080p though.

And the 1060 NDA is lifted.. and results are expected..

Better then 480 and 970 and 970SC's and just as fast or faster then a ref 980 in some games.

Price for 1060 card is $20 more then the 8gb RX480 retails for $239USD atm.

edit, 980 stuff.
