I was flicking between it and the TdF. The Poms let them off the hook. Good old "captain, my captain" had one slip in just after lunch, and the field was spread. Thats the way to win a test match.

he had two slips and a gully, and a short leg IIRC for the last 10 overs or so.... the ball was swinging a lot, i would have had a 3rd slip in myself. Specially after they sent in the night watchman.

wicket from what i saw Vil looked good... bit of turn in it though for the English spinners, and ball was swinging a lot late in the day... Siddles in swinger was a gem.

Correct Norbs... Freddie and Prior were making hay with the new ball until Siddle got it to swing a bit. I was impressed with Siddle, he was unlucky through the day and deserved his two wickets. Not so sure about Johnson, he seems a bit Malinga the Slinger (or a chucker as we used to call em :D ) but he does vary his pace well. If the weather stays the same I expect Jimmy Anderson to be swinging the ball all over the place.

was anyone else nervous when Ponting faced his first ball?

He would have to be the most nervous starter of any of the top 20 odd batsmen in world cricket

Wicket looks horrible for day 2 :eyepop:

no wonder England wanted to go there since we have no real spinner.

Not a real bad start at all, id reckon they would have taken that if someone said before they started, how about 1 for 140 odd. I think they have to make the most of this innings or we are in real trouble, this wicket is gunna be hell by the end of day 3.

haha, maybe not a fav, but theres no denying the guy can swing a bat. in my opinion hes better than the guys in front of him on more total runs... many of Tendulkar's and Lara's runs came from playing teams like Bangladesh. I know thats a big call, and he may not be as flashy, but i think he's that good.

I think Ponting has just again proven what we knew - sucky captain but amazing batsmen. A pity Hughes didn't go on from his start. Enough runs and this will be a draw. All of Australia's bowlers will need to fire at once to get the Aussie's in with a decent chance.

So that's me watching the TdF and the Ashes. :)

That looked like a pretty flat old track by the end last night. A result is possible if it falls apart over the last 2 days. Australia will need 500+ I reckon to be safe.

There's a prediction thingo on some website that suggests the following after the end of day 3:

England Win: 4%
Australia Win: 69%
Draw: 27%

I'd be swapping the Aus Win with the Draw at this stage but either way the poms wont win from here unless we balls up really bad. Which could easily happen with Ponting in charge!
