Re: Top Gear Season 20
Yep last one on Sunday.
Maybe they'll get Ricky on next season. He seems up for it I reckon.

Re: Top Gear Season 20
It's a bit annoying we only have 6 ep seasons now, but at the same time it's probably a good thing. Cut back a little on the number of eps, and make sure each episode has some good content.

Re: Top Gear Season 20
Yeah but I think they need to make some of the items shorter. Good though the hovervan was, it was pretty much the whole episode. As was the convertible supercar one. I'd rather have shorter items cos some are clearly way too long and the joke is done and dusted in 15 minutes.

Re: Top Gear Season 20
Really dumb scheduling by the BBC last night. Top Gear ended with a rousing piece about how the British motoring industry is not the lame duck it's always represented as, and the programme that followed was about how Germany owns all our motoring industry.
Totally pissed on their chips after all that work and effort to put it all together.
Some good bits this series but I've already forgotten a lot of it. The caravan racing bit was the highlight for me, followed by last night's finale. It seems a bit weird they didn't make more of it though really, even if it is a global programme now.

I thought Webber was great. And for all the jibber jabber on Twitter about him giving it to Seb, there wasn't a lot said. He had more of a shot at Clarkson.

Clarkson gave it to seb more than webber did. Webber just didnt say yes or no. Was a good segment. Especially webbers dig at clarkson. Haha

Is Mitch Evans his shadow now?

MW has said on a few interviews he is pushing for Mitch Evans to get an F1 seat , not his lovemonkey as reported in the Autosport forums.

Re: Top Gear Season 20
i think it's good that Webber is helping out, especially considering he's not an aussie. I seem to recall him helping Will Power financially back in the days of WSR.

Re: Top Gear Season 20
So is this season 21?
I actually like the fact that they are keeping the seasons to fewer episodes, they tend to produce higher quality shows. I wonder how many seasons they have left in them. Also wonder if Jeremy retires, would they all go to make way for a new cast? Would love to see Chris Harris in the next lot. Not sure whether or not that would happen.

That would be awesome. Maybe it could change back to being a bit more serious, with a bit less budget (since it won't get the audience).DexterPunk wrote: Would love to see Chris Harris in the next lot. Not sure whether or not that would happen.

Re: Top Gear Season 20
The reason I kinda doubt it will happen is I think fifth gear seem to have that audience. Top Gear really is more about family entertainment. Although replacing Clarkson and co with anyone else and trying to keep that kind of dynamic going would be very difficult. As we've seen when other nations try their best to copy it. It could work with Chris if some of the original cast stayed on perhaps.

Re: Top Gear Season 20
Fifth Gear's been dropped from the mainstream channels here so it's almost invisible now. They made a good go of it but made far too many fundamental mistakes, confusing presentation (at one point they seemed to have about eight people presenting it), padding 40% of the programme with "coming up", "what you missed", here's the competition etc., not to mention the tedious crash tests. The actual content was generally pretty good, there just wasn't a lot of it.
I'm not sure Chris Harris has a broad enough appeal but if he's paired with somebody who can counter his enthusiasm it could work with TG. I suspect it's what he's always wanted

Re: Top Gear Season 20
Yeah Fifth Gear moved to Discovery and dropped off the radar really.
I think with the popularity of TG they really struggled to know what they wanted to be. They tried copying a lot of stuff such as trying to kill a Merc (where TG used the hilux) and wacky tests like seeing which hot hatch could slalom backwards the quickest. Trouble is silly things like that are only funny for so long and I think they realised that and tried to be slightly more sensible with it but it didn't really work out that well. Maybe the mix of presenters isn't quite right. They also tried to do some normal stuff like a sensible car test each week but that soon got silly too where they'd try and lap a track, 4 up with Plato pulling the handbrake etc. I just don't think they've really worked out their audience.
Interestingly, with the likes of Chris Harris, EVO and Autocar magazines doing highly popular proper road tests on youtube, maybe they'll see that this is actually something the public obviously want. Whether you can make a full TV show out of it though is another matter.
