Re: Speedy internet!
You're getting 5Mbs more than you paid for too it does change around a lot though for me but havent seen it drop below 20.
Those speeds are plenty for me, I think it would be a long time before Id consider it slow.

And, my best result on Telstra 4G, iPhone 6S Plus:
Shaun: I can remember you complaining about your internet in 2006... Don't tell me you've had the opportunity to go to cable this whole time!?

On Telstra FTTP at home now, left it at 25/5 cause I don't feel the need for any faster, maybe one day I'll think it's worth the extra money for the speed boost but for now it's doing what I need.

Re: Speedy internet!
I've joined the lucky ones' group...
100/40 internode fttp.
ah...this is while the other half is watching netflix on high quality - it does not seem to make much of a difference, couple of MB/s off.
My best so far is 89/37 or so.

Seems mine has gone down since a few more housing developments have been setup and people moving in

Yep. Does not matter your rated connection, rather the link speed from the hub.
Eg: Every house in the suburb has 1GB connection, other side of the hub has a 2GB link. Yay!

Re: Speedy internet!
And I'm here with my super fast 10mbit being so, so jealous. The bad thing is I doubt very much Central QLD will ever see NBN. There's a few houses hooked up maybe a handful.

Re: Speedy internet!
Well, I've upgraded from a princely 5mbps (on good days) ADSL on a congested exchange...
The install was a real breeze, I loved it. Once the street was done, I've called Internode, got a date within 2wks.
Then one day before the date the "outside" connectors turned up (lucky me, I was home!) they dug the trench and put the outside box on the wall. On the day the chap (booked for 1-5pm) turned up at 11, by 12:30 it was all done, 2 new boxes on the inside wall - one with the modem, the other with the battery.
Then called Internode, again, and in half an hour I had NBN.
Speed is a bit of a roller coaster, depending strongly on the server, and to a small extend on the time of day (this time-of-day fluctuation is not nearly as bad as it used to be on ADSL, not yet anyway). Best result so far - I'm happy with this for a 100/40 connection. It shows that the connection is perfectly capable, but the other side is often not
Pings are consistently single digits, mostly around 4-6.

I quite like good news stories like these. Gives me hope for the NBN.

Re: Speedy internet!
Well, the FTTN is another story, mind you. I'm reading nice results, and really ugly stories, too, obviously lots of issues are related to the copper...
But then some issues are due to the really badly organised nature of this whole thing.
If you think about it; these guys came out just to dig a trench to my house, then separately to connect the box on the wall to an inside box.
Not just it could have been done in one go, the trench could have been dug to multiple houses - there are a couple in the same direction in the street from the pole...but no. The neighbour called in, they'll come and assess the situation in two weeks, then do the job (they'll do it; it's only about 5m extra compared to mine.)
So it's a really inefficiently organised rollout, sadly.
One guy in this area on whirlpool got a date for connection (he needs aerial apparently) and when the chap turned up (he is the chap supposed to be doing step 2) he found that the outside (the actual aerial connection) was not done. Further weeks of wait, another site visit...

Re: Speedy internet!
Reports are slowly starting to come out today saying the copper network will need "at least" $600 million in remediation to get any sort of acceptable speeds.....ysu wrote:Well, the FTTN is another story, mind you. Not that anyone with half a brain didn't see that coming.

Optus cable purchase seems to be a kick in the teeth. Buy it then spend money on it.

Re: Speedy internet!
Yeah that was a big friggen joke, that optus purchase. NBN just seems to stuff all the big ones' pockets...
by the way the evening speed today is really significantly off;
I'm barely getting 40mbps down. The upload speed is steady 37, though. Pings are still as good as ever.

Re: Speedy internet!
I have no idea about this but it's reasonable enough for what we use it for.

Re: Speedy internet!
Unlikely to be fttp, the latency seems too high. But the speed is cable-speed region.
But then again, try to test it on speedtest.net and not at the peak time, rather sometime mid-morning.

Re: Speedy internet!
oh, now that's fttp territory all right. Maybe a lower plan, but as I said, try it outside of peak time, try it on a couple of servers, then you'll get an idea of the peak speed.

ABC Tech reporter Nick Ross has left the ABC and will be answering questions about the NBN that have not been published.
