Re: New Star Wars film announced
I was a bit underwhelmed by it. Too long. I thought the military action scenes were a bit dumb. I did enjoy Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver's scenes, however. Also Luke was better than expected although him doing comedy felt out of character.
I guess the next movie will be set quite a few years in the future?
Anyway, going to see it again in a few minutes. Will see if it grows on me. First time I've generally thought less of a Star Wars film than the reviews.

I thought the storyline with Finn and Rose was a bit unnecessary. I also spent the entire movie trying to figure out how they were going to kill Leia.Exar Kun wrote: I thought the military action scenes were a bit dumb.

Re: New Star Wars film announced
I enjoyed it but then I was always going to.
Start and end were good. Little bit drawn out in the middle and I thought the constant flitting between 4-5 different story lines got a bit distracting but I liked it a lot. The light sabre fights were good and I thought the battle sequences were well done. Maybe a touch too much comedy and I think if you took out the entire side story with Finn and Rose nothing would have changed.

Did anyone else notice how diverse the cast was? I think they managed to get both genders of all races equal amount of air time.

Perhaps you noticed in the same way folks of those diverse backgrounds noticed their absence in the past.w00dsy wrote:Did anyone else notice how diverse the cast was? I think they managed to get both genders of all races equal amount of air time.

I enjoyed it. I didn't expect a wham bam thank you ma'am every scene and I was surprised at the time when it finished. I wasn't bored at any point.

Yeah it was fun.. Some scenes were cringe worthy though.
Some valid points (and spoilers) in this scathing review..

Watched it yesterday and enjoyed it as a stand-alone Star Wars action-adventure.
I think they could do with a few new tropes, though.

Re: New Star Wars film announced
I left for a few weeks overseas just as this came out, I thought I might see it once I got back but I kinda got sucked into the controversy and ended up completely spoiling things for myself. I'll give it a watch once it comes to Netflix but I've pretty much decided not to see any future Star Wars movies at the cinema, it's just a cash cow for Disney and I'm not going to support them as they slowly destroy Star Wars.

Yeah I don't doubt you guys but it's become a matter of principal for me now, not that I really think I'm making a difference but I'm voting with my wallet

Doesn't look too bad actually although it seems a bit too epic, I mean I don't know if it really fits Han that he has some epic origin story.

Red Letter Media did a video last week predicting what would be in the trailer:
And how did they do
