If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you finally have enough horsepower.

Well, colour me happy. Thanks to the video @w00dsy posted, I had two great flights with smooth, good frames! The key things that unlocked performance for me were:

V-sync off
Windowed mode
using FXAA

I was even able, during a flight down the French coast from Nice beyond Cannes, after dawn, to set clouds to Ultra!

My first flight, once I had decent framerates was from Queenstown (covered in low cloud) to Wanaka, via Cardona ski fields. Nothing short of spectacular. No screens because I was running FRAPS and it prevented F12 form recording shots. After breaking free from clouds over the lake, I headed NE, flew over the Cardona ski field we went to last year, marvelling at how real it looked, then into the valley to Wanaka. It was late afternoon, so the shadows and light were amazing, the mountains had a dusting of snow and clouds sat down in the valleys; Wanaka was sun-bathed with big banks of clouds in the distance. Incredible.

And tonight Norbs and I took off from Nice at dawn and beetled down the coast at 7-8,000 feet in Cessna 152s, where Boxhead joined us and then the airport we chose to land at happened to be alongside Circuit Paul Ricard, so we posed for a shot on the track!

The lighting in this sim is something else.

Yeah there's just not a lot to see. Mostly hills and the plane is that slow thing that's on the far right. I'll do more today, hopefully I'll see a waterfall or Yogie Bear.

Did the first couple legs of the Patagonia bush trip and the scenery is pretty nice. Turned the map off for the 2nd leg and it was more engaging just following the instructions. Would be even better if you could turn off the pink line on the compass.

And this last image - it was only after the fligth I realised that blue control is the prop pitch. I wondered why it was so sluggish climbing (needed to go up to about 11,500 feet to get over the alps).

Nvidia has gone back to sensible prices with a big performance jump. 3070 looks like it will have 2080Ti level performance (probably with rtx on) for less than 1/2 the price. Demand is going to be super high though, so I'm sure retailers will jack up the prices.

Shows "starting at" $810AUD for the 3070 and $1139AUD for the 3080 on the nvidia site

This article made me realize it's possible to do the bush trips with multiple people. Not sure if they grouped up or just started the leg at the same time, but thought the option might interest some here :)

https://stormbirds.blog/2020/08/31/bush ... simulator/

I just finished the 5th or 6th leg of the Patagonian one. Still a long way to go. I've been doing a leg then exploring it in more detail with google maps and street view. It's cool being able to jump down to ground level and see what the towns are really like and seeing other things in the area.

Chatting to devs and the crypto people, I'm a bit more excited.

The 3070 will be killer for most of us. If that is a bit steep, the 3060 is being talked about for November December.

I reckon there will be some cheap 20 series cards too.

Colour me excited about the 3070 - I doubt there'll be stock 5 minutes after they are available.
