Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
Final ride for the year, and with perfect weather too. Ideally Miss V would have come along but she managed to roll her ankle while trail running yesterday evening She should be ok by the time the TDU starts though!

2017 was certainly a better than average year for me on the bike with more than couple of long standing personal records falling.
Some stats:
Distance 10,558.3 km
Time 426h 40m
Elev Gain 76,499 m
Rides 542
let's do it all again next year, yeah?

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
Nice distance total CLP, mega kudos to you mate.
I was happy with my 3,000k given I hardly looked at the bike in November & December.
I got 2018's account kicked off today with a 56k trail ride. Took a Clif bar with me, the same loop attempt I did at the end of 2017 I tanked severely on and took a B line home after my climb and descent in Ansteys. Today I should have taken 2...
Today I went for some redemption and did the same loop, minus an extra climb and descent in Cobblers at the start but extended the middle of the ride to include a venture around the old mine at South Ansteys and a explore at the top of the Torrens at Gorge Rd. I actually thought there was a single track there but I got my locations confused with Heyward Dr.
Good to be back on the bike.

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
I rode this on Monday night and didn't get a chance to revisit it during our holiday in the daylight. I wasn't going to leave without wondering what it would look like in the daylight so I woke up bright and early to ride it before we packed up and left Normanville this morning.
It didn't disappoint.

10th and Final Ride Like Crazy community ride yesterday ..
A little bit sad, but at the same time it's good that they let it go on a high note having achieved what they set out to do, namely raise funds for cancer research.
In the lead up to the ride, Miss V rolled her ankle so in the week leading up to RLC we'd been closely monitoring it to make sure that she could ride. Physio gave her the all clear, and "strapped the shit out of it" (his words). That said, there were a couple of bail-out plans in place should things go pear shaped.
Weather was near perfect.. a little cool early on, but turning sunny later in the ride.
I took the corkscrew option, while Miss V didn't. I passed a bunch of people going up Corkscrew, some looked to be in a world of pain. Thinking they didn't research the climb prior to heading up there! The Garmin live track feature on the Garmin 820 worked really well in this instance since i could see where she was to help us meet up on the road afterwards
Finished the distance with a bit of relief, but definitely some smiles. BBQ and a Ham Roll finished the day Still rates as one of the best organised community rides in my book.

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
Epic CLP. A big group ride like that would be a lot of fun.
Ticked off a little personal milestone for myself today, 1000vm in Cobbler Creek.
Cobblers is a small hill really, 220m max elevation and about 70m at its lowest point so its a case of trying to ride every trail in the place to get the job done. Ive come up about 100-150m short pre Garmin days so today I was determined to tick off that box. Was a tad hot today, should have started an hour or two earlier but there was no quitting once I got going.

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
Phew! massive day on the bike for me. I decided to ride out to Williamstown for the final circuits of Stage 1 of the Tour Down Under. A bit on the warm side, but nowhere near the furnace like heat we had last year for the same stage.
Caught up with Miss V on who had driven out with a bike and did a loop of the most of the circuit (missing bits that were closed). Having completed our lap it was back to the car to grab the cameras and take some shots of the Pros
After the race had been run and won, i guzzled some ice water that V had brought along and headed home on the bike. There were a few points where i was wondering if i'd made a bad choice, possibly due to the heat, possibly also due to not eating enough. I stopped along the way for a Coke and i think that fixed me up Hurrah for sugar and caffeine!
All up, 138km for the day which I'm pretty happy with.

MASSIVE.
Hats off to you, that would have been a long day.
The mrs said to the kids if they wanted some home cooked chips after tea. Instead of watching TV whilst they cooked I asked the boys who wanted to go for a ride, 2 out of 3 said yes so off we went. Loving making use of the daylight savings light to get a pedal in with the boys, gonna have to do it a few more times before they go back to school.

Good stuff Knappo! Really enjoy seeing you getting your lads out there! Should try bringing them out to CX! (Next event .. Ozzy Cross, be there!)
I rolled out yesterday with relatively heavy legs to go to Stirling, finish of Stage 2 of the Tour Down Under. Once warmed up, things were ok. I didn't set any land speed records heading up Norton Summit, and I suspect I wasn't alone on that front based on what I was seeing! Once I got to Stirling it was beer and a picnic lunch time at a mate's place while wandering around the place taking a few shots. As usual, this stage strung out the field late in the piece, so there were plenty of photo opportunities. Once done, it was time to climb back to the old freeway and descend pretty much the entire way home Garmin recorded a peak of 40 degrees at the base of the freeway.. Good times
I'd originally planned to roll out to Glenelg for the start of todays stage, but with an predicted max of 41 degrees, I think a rest day is in order

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
Bit of a warm one today.. and by warm, think "like a fucking furnace in the depths of hell"
I headed out to Norwood for the TDU Stage start, before heading up in the hills before the serious heat hit Adelaide. Not that I think i succeeded, Garmin was reading ~45 degrees at the base of Norton Summit and a relatively arctic 39 degrees by the time i got to the Stage finish in Uraidla. I pootled around for a bit before heading out to what i thought might be a decent vantage point about 5km from the finish. Once the race had passed i headed back to Uraidla to meet up with Miss V and to eat BBQ
By the time i was leaving to go home it was still over 40 degrees and it didn't really get any cooler getting back into the metro area.
All up, ~70 km for the day where the average temp was 40 degrees :o

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
Nice ride out to McLaren Vale today to watch Stage 5 of the TDU. approximately 60 km out to the stage start and the initial loop they use is about 40km. Seemed like a good opportunity to clock up another 100km
The ride out was pretty nice. Cooler temperatures than previous days was a bit of a relief. That said, I still managed to sweat up a storm on the climbs. I arrived at the stage start in plenty of time, so after a few quick snaps I headed out on my loops. The wind was pretty intense, but I managed to get through that... eventually. There was a really nice bit along the coast, but on the flip side, there were truly awful stretches of road that I probably never want to ride again.
I got back to the start line just in time to see the start, before heading back to our base for the day which included BBQ Just over 100km for today, and just over 1000m of climbing. Happy with that

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
Had a blast last night. First real big night ride for 2018 with a 50k urban loop with about 80% of it being on the loose stuff.
Backed up with an excellent Australia Day morning in the rain with the kids back at Cobblers before the heatwave kicks in, again... Jake tackled the beginners jumps line 3 times and Adam had a good roll around the pump track before having a speccy and bloodying up his knee.

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
Did a couple of test runs with my recently purchased aero helmet yesterday. Despite not really giving it full bottle on either run of the usual Outer Harbor TT course I clocked up my 3rd and 6th fastest times! eep! Not sure if that says something about me or the helmet. Either way, looking forward to trying it out in anger at the next time trial

Re: Your ride today, yesterday....
So I suppose I can call myself a cyclist again...
I'm enjoying being back on the bike & not always thinking it's training for the next big event but rather simply enjoying the tranquility & catching up with old friends.
I've already lost 7kg with a goal to loose at least that again, times on the local climb (1/20) have come down from 28mins to 22mins - happy chappy!!!
I'm still not up to the fitness or pace of my 6amers mates but I know I'll get back to a relative comfortable level to enjoy the more arduous rides they do.
Oh I also did my first 100k ride in 3yrs on Sun & it was in the hills.

Well done Duke.
There are not many things ide rather do than spend quality time on the bike these days. I just wish I had more time to explore new trail networks.

Been a slow and frustrating start to 2018 for me.
Hurt my knee on NYD. Finally got an MRI. Bucket handle tear of the meniscus (fuck), bone bruising, nerve damage to tendon and slight ligament damage. Yay!
Can go and talk to a specialist, or just tough it out. It isnt too bad on the bike unless I tweak it doing other stuff. Then it hurts like fuck.

Get it looked at Norbs. Nothing worse than having to deal with an injury long term especially if you can get it fixed or improved without breaking the bank.

Will see the specialist, but from all reports, if i get the cartilage repaired it will lead to other issues as the bone is exposed.
I am nearly positive both knees have similar issues, because the pain was something I get quite often after running around. It was just this time a stepped into a hole and it got a real bashing, thus the other damage.

As the 6amers would say "HTFU!!!"
But I'm not like them so as others have said here, I hope you can find a way to get it right or at least manage it without too much pain.
