Re: JTM's Supra
Ok so we did a bit of work today. Because the workshop and showroom was open today we had alot of people distracting us, asking questions and etc. Plus we had to do a sausage sizzle at lunch time which burned alot of time. But we got the old brakes, discs, front shocks and front sway bar off the car. Which was more difficult then you think, lots of parts such as the disc where stuck to the hub, and we spent alot of time trying to get those bits off and stuck bolts undone.
We got everything off eventually and have put the front shocks in. Here are some photos. There is a heap of rust around the hubs which is why the discs stuff to the hub. But we are cleaning it up and replacing alot of it.
Before we started work.
The original setup
New Tein suspension
New Toyota brakes
The other goodies
Brakes off
Shocks out
Old shocks and sway bar
New shocks going in
Finished for the day

Re: JTM's Supra
Okay so day 2.
First thing we did today was finish up the front, we put in the new sway bar, put the front arms back on and then started on the brakes and brake lines. All of that went pretty smoothly, everything was basically bolt on and was fine.
We then went and removed the rear shocks and sway bars, put in the new ones, the rear backing plates needed to be cut to allow for the new, bigger, discs. So dad was on the grinder for a good while on them, the workshop compressor wasn't working so we had to bring in our own little compressor which wouldn't keep up with the air usage of the grinder which made it hard but eventually got it done.
So after that it was time to get the wheels on and drop it, give it a little run to let everything settle, then to tighten up all the arms and suspension. We then ran into a problem. The front wheel wouldn't fit over the brakes, we had measured before and we were sure that it would all fit fine, it just wouldn't go on. We then realized that the wheels were the problem. One front wheel would fit but the other one wouldn't. I realized the mistake comparing the 2 wheels, we had put the wrong wheel center in one of the front wheels. The centers control the offset on the wheel, we had put one of the front centers in the rear wheel without realizing it, even though we had taken precautions to mark each wheel/center when we took them apart to make sure they went back in the right wheel. So anyway, we called it a day and we brought home the two wheels we need to swap the centers with, we did that this afternoon but now we have to wait until next weekend to get them on the car and finish off tightening the suspension and do a wheel alignment.
Pretty embarrassing mistake but we learned front it, was a easy fix and will have the supra out on the road next weekend
Here are a couple pics from the day, not heaps, was too busy working and kept forgetting the camera.
Front suspension and sway bar finished up, time for brakes
Front brakes in, looking awesome
Braided brake lines

Pretty much it for the day

Yeh the workshop we got to work on is awesome, dads work was developed for the future so at the moment not all the lifts are being used even when the workshop is open. So whenever we need to do something we have a bay to work in. Also all the tools we would ever need, as well as a laser wheel alignment machine, wheel balancing machines and all that stuff. Definitely a great place to do the work

Re: JTM's Supra
Another quick update.
We got the wheels on it this arvo and got it on the ground. Took the car for a spin around the car park and then tightened up all the shocks and arms.
Can't believe how stiff the suspension is now its rock solid, can't wait to take it out for a good drive and see how it handles. Also sits a lot nice, they come standard with the front ride height a bit higher to make it under steer for general people on the road, the new suspension makes it sit a lot flatter.
Here are a couple pics, excuse the quality, took them with my phone.
Wheel alignment tomorrow and taking it out for a good run on Saturday and then putting new oils in it.

You can see the way its sitting now is a lot better. Doesn't have that rear squat, which I always thought might have been an illusion.

Re: JTM's Supra
Thanks VT.
Yeh its more that i want a pair, i dont have a pair of shoes that would be very good for driving, they are all big and clunky. Normally just drive barefoot or deal with my normal shoes. But i dont want to have to worry about that on the track.nutty wrote:Hmm im looking for a helmet too hey..

Re: JTM's Supra
Hey guys. Time for an update one whats been happening.
Got some gear from revolution racegear and took the car out for a training day with Paul Stokell at QR. Was awesome to finally get out there and do some laps.
We have since stripped out the car a bit for room for race seat and roll cage.
Here is the seat we got to go in.
Also got a trailer from tilta trailers.
We are heading out to lakeside this Sunday for the first sprints of the year. Cant wait to get out in it again.
For the seat we need to send the car to the panel shop at dads work to get them to modify the floor to get the seat secure in the right position. And then it will be sent off to get the roll cage done.
After that is done it will probably be all we do to it for a while until we save up a bit of cash to do the computer, bodykit, etc.

Yeah but the dash in the Supra is awesome how it wraps around toward the driver. Gives it a nice cockpit feel.

My co-driver wants one of those seats.
I told him he could buy it himself.
But seriously, looking good mate. I'm glad you went a had a session with Stokell, he's a good steerer.
