Problem is that if I really like and want one, I doubt I will see one before xmas (or even Easter)

They look pretty amazing for the price. I must say I'm a wee bit tempted, but I need to start putting away money for a deposit after this holiday. You not interested in the BRZ, Bauer?

Aren't they launching soon? I guess they too would also have a crap load of orders.
I was thinking I could always buy one second hand In a year or two. I bet the resale value is going to stay relatively high on them.

Indeed. A base model auto is 2-3 months wait stretching out to an 18 month wait for a GTS manual.
Have fun and let us know how it drives!

I am but I would prefer the Toyota badge on mine. The BRZ launched last week, online sales only, and sold out inside 3 hours. Now we are out to a 6 months + wait for the BRZ.DexterPunk wrote: You not interested in the BRZ, Bauer?

Re: Toyota 86 Aussie launch w/ pricing
So I had a drive of a Black GTS auto
Very nice to drive. Took one of the kids with me so he could try the back seat. I think he lost circulation in his right leg at some point. No room at all but I guess thats why it is a 2+2 rather than a 4 seater.
Pulled really nicely but you have to remember that I am coming from a 1.8l MX5 and not a HSV. I loved the feel of it. The electric powered steering really shone through when doing a u-turn and felt really solid at higher speeds. The dealer drove me out of the city for us to swap over to come back. I went back to the dealership on some back roads he had never seen before as I wanted to get a feel for what I would expect to be driving on if I bought one. I love the country roads to drive on. I thought it was brilliant as a drivers car. Lots of thought gone in to the interior layout, vision was good, feel was excellent. That said, I am no performance car analyst so I probably would have said the same for the Camry sitting next to it.
I am not convinced now that I would pay the extra for the GTS. Not that the extras dont add value to the car, but I sat in the GT while I was there and I was expecting that to feel lower quality and it wasnt.
So all in all, I loved it. I havent ordered one even though I am in a position to. Im not sure if I want to commit to a car and wait 8 months. Who knows what might come out while I am waiting??

Good stuff...and in 12 months you might be able to buy one off the shelf, rather than wait!

I could have driven away with one today. No balls though
Well when I say today - there was one in the showroom to sell. No waiting.

Re: Toyota 86 Aussie launch w/ pricing
So, the ball less one grew a set today and decided to ring a dealer or 2 to see what was about
Wait list my arse, I could buy 2 before the end of August. A blue or a black one. Both GT in manual
The black is in pre delivery with the dealer and assuming it is still there, I will be having a look on Thursday. The blue one is on its way still unsold. Delivery is August.
Goes to show that if you believe what your dealer says, you get what you ask for. The dealers arent telling lies about the wait but they sure as shit are not going to tell you about what is available 100kms away.
I think I would prefer it in black but I do like the blue.

Awesome!
I saw one yesterday for the first time, really like it. Love the idea of the RWD.
Can't wait to see pics, do you own a g-string?

Congrats Bauer. Can't wait to read your report on what they are like to live with! Check out a product called Opti-Coat. It is paint protection, there a heaps of bids on YouTube. It makes the Black paint look amazing, like it is still wet. And maksing keeping the car clean a breeze too!
