Re: Toyota 86 Aussie launch w/ pricing
Quick question, is there any models (current or planned) that'll have forced induction?

Yeah I agree Black looks wwaaayyy better than the two Red ones I've seen.
Just this morning I was getting a dribbly dick thinking about my next car. It all started while on the bus when I saw a ratty old MG and thought... They'll be cheap as and maybe I could fit an SR20DET in there, yay, grin. Then came the... You've already got a 180sx that hasn't be driven in 2 years. Bahh I just want something cause I don't have it and now seeing the 86 in black, I want a turbo one haha.

I've been really interested in this car since I read that for once, they wanted it to be about simple driving enjoyment, rather than statistics.wabbit wrote:Quick question, is there any models (current or planned) that'll have forced induction?
Anyway, one of the things I've picked up is that they seem to have designed the car from day one to be a base for modification, so I'd say there will definitely be forced induction kits available in no time, especially since the early reviews are hinting that it's not quite quick enough.
It all reminds me so much of the MX-5

Nailed it. I was around in 1989 and so wanted an mx5 but wasn't in a position to be what we now term an "early adopter"durbster wrote:

Congrats Bauer! Super jealous! If you're anything like me though, grab a big supply of tyre cleaner. I found I was always trying to keep the tyres black on a black car when I had one.

I'd never buy a black car again if I had a choice in colours, tbh. It's painful keeping them clean. They look awesome when they are but jeez, the effort required is ridiculous.

I've been through it. I would again, because I love black cars... But it is a royal pain in the arse keeping them look good.

Been following this car for ages... Pre-ordered a GTS 6MT white on the 6th of June. Was told August build / September delivery. Turns out its now October build / November delivery. Ended up buying a WR Blue BRZ instead with October delivery... Can't wait!!

Re: Toyota 86 Aussie launch w/ pricing
But our pricing for the 86 is extremely aggressive. We actually get it cheaper than the brits. Still, if you could buy a 6 year old Cayman for 2/3 the price of a new 86 GTS... would there really be any contest?

I only think the buying the car part is stage one of the total cost, maintenance, servicing, rego, insurance etc would be the killer

Re: Toyota 86 Aussie launch w/ pricing
I'd buy the cayman in a heartbeat, too In fact if you could buy it for that price here, I'd buy it. But here it's - what - $100K? (ok actually you can go as low as $65K it seems) Bit different, isn't it.
As he quite correctly put it, the lack of depreciation on the cayman is offset by the running costs, which is the reverse on a new 86. But at that price it's a no brainer, indeed.
