I like the V8's, but their are lots of great mods.

Formula BMW,

Stu has links to a good OW mod...

Check out the ratings at the site, they are a good guide!

Thanks gents. The bride works in Sydney 1 week every fortnight, so I am finding in winter I am bored at night. Rebuilt her PC and have installed GPL, LFS and now rFactor. Had a run at GPL last night and remembered why I gave it away. Shit net code. Will still play it off line. But I will give LFS and rFactor a run now to see which I like more.

Hey norbs....

Live for speed because it has no real mods is basically what you see is what you get. It is slightly easier to pick up and play because the servers can only run cars and tracks that come with the game when its installed so from that point of view you will probably find it easier to jump online any time of the day.

But these days its following has decreased massively and theres not much quality racing (hardly anyone in the public servers) so like rfactor the best racing you will find is in the leagues.

I prefer rfactor by far because its far more modern, far better car models, real cars for that matter, awesome sounds depending on the mod and basically any track in the world will be on it.

Jumping online though is harder, to get enjoyment out of rfactor online you basically have to join a league as it there is so much content out there you can rarely find a server packed with people and a track you have installed unless its the v8's or meganes.

As far as mods go there are plenty to choose from

My personal favourites in no particular order are

Champcar, Formula BMW, Porsche Carrera Cup 07, MMG F1 07, CTDP 2005 and the Renaul Megane Trophy mod which will always have servers running it and usually only on tracks installed with the actual rfactor game itself meaning you can just jump online with no hassle. Even the truck mod is good fun.

The champcar sounds are incredible, as are the f1 sounds in ctdp2005 and even mmg f1 07 which uses the sounds from the bmw sauber provided with the game.

Im a bit of a exception when it comes to the v8 mod, i have untill recently enjoyed following the v8supercar series but to me the mods physics leave alot to be desired but most people enjoy it. However there Bathurst track is a must install as it is the most realistic and best looking version of it i have seen yet in any sim.

I never downloaded the Grand Prix 1979 mod but everyone who used it raved about so have a look at that especially if your into historics.

Thanks mate. You are right, I jumped into LFS this morning and it felt so much easier than GPL. It is a lot more forgiving. I was miles off my fastest laps, but I felt like I could drive it. GPL still has some attraction for those that haven't left it, but it has been too long away from the game for me.

I think I will end up just tooling around off line. I cant commit to a rFactor league, and if LFS has dropped away, I will be happy lapping around on my own.

Thanks for the advice.

I think Viper is being a bit of an alarmist when it comes to LFS...

Monday Night Racing consistently has 2 full servers of people in our league  Which you'd be most welcome to join. In the last 2 months we've actually had quite a few good people join (and one bad)

Will have a look r8.

Just had a quick run on rFactor. Jesus, its a lot different to what I remember. Not the most intuitive game to set up either. Getting the hang of the menus now. Now to get some tracks that I know. Where the hell is Lulsgate? :rolf:

Nah i was just refering to the public servers, i mentioned that as in rfactor the best way to race is now in the leagues which are run different nights of the week.

Gotta say, so far I am very impressed. Haven't raced online yet, dont know it all well enough to do that, but off line has been a blast. I raced the SR cars at Bathurst and had a ball. There is a hell of a lot to this game. Downloading Norisring and the mini pack today. Cant wait to get home. :)

Well, I have just spent the last hour racing VW Bugs around Suzuka. Holy crap, how much fun is that. The range of cars and tracks is terrific. Certainly enjoying it.

I've just recently my wheel back up on the desk and tried a few of the latest sims. nkPro is amazing but I'm not paying for that support, and LFS felt as dull and lifeless as it always has, so I bought rFactor last week so am just getting my head round it like norbs. It doesn't feel hugely sophisticated on the physics side, and the graphics are curiously blue, but it's a shit lot of fun and I've only just touched the surface of the mods.

The 1979 F1 cars are great and they sound amazing, but they're tricky bastards. The BMW320s are good too, and a bit more manageable. I'm just buggering about offline but I'm well off the pace of my old league mates so far, so don't think I'll be racing anyone any time soon :)

Here's a good list of mods my mate sent me to try out:

BMW320s (plus get the patch)

Porsche Carrera Cup series

F1 1979 (plus patch and trackpack)
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cf ... rix%201979

MMG2007 (2007 F1s)
http://www.cable-usuarios.org/mmg07_pub ... n_v1.0.rar

FSR2008s (physics update for 2008 which installs ontop of MMG2007)
http://www.cable-usuarios.org/FSR_2008.zip (zip password - fsr2008)
(need to lower tyre pressure to around 130 with these cars)

Plus some tracks we use regularly-

Brands

Bathurst-

Nurby-

(think we're all using 2.2 but I notice there's a 2.21 version now)

Imola 94-

Suzuka-

My only other suggestion would be to download and try the Force feedback plugins that are available, Realfeel is one and seems to be quite popular but I its 'feel' is not quite right for me, personally I prefer the LeoFFB plugin, it feels much more natural and is a real improvement over the poor ISI force feedback.

Easy to install, just download and put both files in your plugin folder and its activated......to uninstall just delete both.
