i picked up GTR yesterday from my local Hardly Normal, 20 bucks less than what EK predicted
do some of us want to have a casual bash around tonight on a server somewhere? can any of us host a game?

Re: Casual GTR?
Doubt we'd be able to have someone host as requirements are pretty hefty but I'd be up for a bash sometime.9ra55h0ppaH wrote:i picked up GTR yesterday from my local Hardly Normal, 20 bucks less than what EK predicted

Did you get it for $49.95? Some dude on the PCPP forums got it from Harvey Norman in SA for that price which is unreal.

Couple of guys on were dial up and they werent real solid but the ADSL guys were as stable as a shed full of horses.
We only had around 10 guys and it was pretty good. I only got it myself yesterday.

hmmmm
ive been thinking about buying this.
do you guys enjoy racing it?
with the hefty server requirements, what specs does a dedi server require?
**EDIT**
just found this...
--
Needs Windows
Game CD must be present (so server needs CD drive)
Requires a DX8 compatible GFX adapter (this means remote access will need to be via VNC as well as, or instead of, Remote Desktop)
Game locks up the computer, so need unlimited instant remote reboot
Support for a 20 car grid requires 2MB upload, 30 cars 5MB

GTR dedicated server v1.4 is out!
Check out http://www.racemore.com/more/
Finally - don't need gfx card, don't need CD and can set session lengths and stuff.
Also it's been optimised to run more than one copy per server. This should make organising an ARSE race waaaay easier.

i liked the whole game, except the most fun thing to do online is the practice sessions...
besides... S2 is around the corner, and who expects to be playing anything but for the next 6 months!?
maybe by then Simbin will fix the netcode for it

Having recently got Broadband GTR has improved leaps and bounds for me online, theres still some start issues now and then but otherwise all the lag and cars jerking have gone and is definately far easier and more enjoyable to play online now.
I wont stop playing GTR its too realistic and immersive for me to ignore, but i can see it getting a bit sidelined at time for s2. But having said that, i think GTR will better s2 in everything but online play.

Yeah not putting down the work of the dev's but GTR hammers LFS in every aspect except for online functionality.Coopz wrote:I just had a go of the demo, think I'll pick this up, feels a bit more polished than LFS S2.
Its sound is amazing, the feel is amazing, the physics are brilliant, menu's, music and the ai is the best ive ever seen etc.
Plus they're REAL GT cars, motec etc, its all so great.
Maybe it is a blessing for LFS but its such a pity that GTR has some issues when a lot of people join a game and lag it out. Hopefully it will be fixed in a future patch, because if it didnt have this problem i seriously would have considered not getting s2.
Anyway hope more people get it, because its easily the best racing sim out there!.
