16 player cap for multiplayer with "options" for leagues to get more. WTF? Does that mean they're trying to force people onto racemore?

Got my copy on Monday & it's fuckin' awesome.
I think it's probably the most fun I've had with any sim. So cool chasing down Cortinas & Minis & the like, & throwing the Alfa around like a fool. And the tracks are just Glorious. Finally something to take over from GPL. "Long live the King".
There is a new patch on it's way which will support 36 players. I've had a few online races & the net code looks good, very stable.
I don't know how many like the career mode, particularly online leagues, but it's really well done & not too difficult. Since there are 5 levels of difficulty anyone should be able to complete it. Aside from that, there are cheats, (.ini file edit), if anyone really hates it.
Also got a TrackIR ( http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ ) a week ago & now I don't think I could ever play without it. It really makes the game feel so much more immersive. It's so cool to be looking at apexes & where you want to go, than straight ahead all the time. Plus it works with all the best sims. GPL, N2003, RBR, FIC, GTR etc.
I know I sound like a Fanboy, ( because I am ), but I think in the very near future I won't be alone.

LFS is included in the etc. , although I haven't really played it as I have been racing GPL & Nascar leagues until about 6 months ago & I can only concentrate on 1 thing at a time & then I've had a bit of a break from simming.
I also never played GTR until about 4 weeks ago, ( the Escort mod) & just in single player. I don't really plan to do anymore league racing for a while.
I may rethink that, if a GTL league starts up.

Its quite fun.
If you have a powerfull pc that is. And if you can live with some bugs fomerly featured in GTR
Well all in all i really like it. Great looks, great sound, great fun to drive, cool cars, good physics. If the patch they bring out clears out the issues they say it would clear...
Patch stuff (not out yet)

3. Fix non-scrolling client grid list.
4. Fix for missing wheels in dedicated server replays.
5. Fix for intermittent invisible cars with shadows.
6. Fix for MP lobby sort crashes/hangs.
7. Dedicated server now supports a maximum of 36 cars.
8. Alt-tab stability improvements.
9. Various localisation fixes.
10. Fix for inverted mirrors in Ford Escort.
11. Various car model/paint improvements.
12. Fix for Spa corner cutting problems.
13. Fix for Imola and Magny-Cours locked garage door in MP.
14. Improve braking marker visibility at Anderstorp.
15. Fix for incorrect lap records in MP.
16. Fix for missing opponent laptimes when joining MP qualifying session.
17. Cup system unlockable track fixes.
18. Fix for missing brake markers at Imola and Zolder under lower detail level settings.
19. Fix for two cars sharing one garage at Donington.
20. Shadows optimised.
21. Fix for dedicated server intermittently failing to connect to the lobby over slow connections.
22. "Low" shadows option now shows ambient car shadow.

Nah, patch should be good. I've done a couple of online races with my retail copy of the game and apart from the obvious lag you get when racing dudes in Europe from here it's been fun. Although people seem to have a serious case of 911 RSR loving in the the 76 class. Luckily my BMW CSL able to beat them all!
Honestly think the GTC65 class will be best for close racing + enough thrills. If you take out the GT40 that class is pretty competitive and has cars like the Vettes and Cobras for the tail happy out there and Elans and the like for those that like to be more precise.

Oh, and by the way - you can grab the game now from sendit.com for only around $50 including postage. That's cheaper than LFS S2!!
Alrighty, I'll stop flogging the product now.

I bet you would too! I haven't spent much time trying to go fast in GTL but I do know some of the tracks very well by now. Dunno how many laps I've done around Zolder, Magny Cours & Donnington but it must be a crap load. I'm not a huge fan of the Porsches. I still like my engine in the front. Capri is pretty easy to be fast in. Panteras are fast but wild and 911s are easy to be quick in if you're used to their strange rear engined tendancies. The 76 Vettes are only really fun at Monza - can get some massive sideways action out of parabolica and lesmo 2.Jumi2 wrote:I bet i flog ya with my red 911... My mates all drive the damn capri.

The shelby daytona is also nice, suits my style of shifting with 4 gears (gear 1 is to short for using)

Sorry if this offends anyone but i think the game feels way to arcade. It is a huge cpu hog and the handling of the cars results in them being way too easy to drive.
I drove around for about 20 minutes before giving up on the game.
Even with its netcode issues GTR is a much more complex and difficult simulation.
An average effort in my opinion, and aimed at the arcade market.

I assume your near the lap record then if it's too easy I haven't driven the full thing, but in the demo it had too many aids on by default, apparently even when you turned them off in game they weren't actually right off, you had to edit your player file to disable them, then people started saying how good it was.

Yupp you have to switch them helps out. With the F1-F8 keys, and check the plr ini if they are out.
It depends what car and setup you drive, theres easy ones and hard ones.
To be fast, well, thats another story.
I heard alot from people that the 65 gpl mod is to easy.
Then they tried my setups. Then i send them a replay how i drive.
Then they were silent about that to easy part...

You don't need to turn the aids off in the full version with F1-F8. In pro mode they are all off except auto-clutch, even if your .plr file says otherwise. The only reason they say they are on in the .plr file is because some aids always remain on for people with digital controllers. Ignore a lot of whats in the .plr file. Just because it's in there doesn't mean the game will use what you modify.
Viper - have you driven the Pantera hard? How about the AC Cobra round a short track? Or tried to squeeze a really competitive time out of a CSL?
I honestly thought the handling was easy-ish. Even after my 5 or 6 months of testing the game. However, after going online in the past week or so I've realised I wasn't driving the cars anywhere near the limit.
It is a lot like the 65 mod in some ways as Jumi said - especially the slower GTC/TC-65 cars. However, extracting competitive times out of them lap after lap is certainly a challenge.
I'll admit that GTR is a lot more difficult to drive and master but that doens't mean these cars aren't realistic. It certainly hasn't been dumbed down for the arcade market. In fact, I can assure that the physics in GTL are more 'realistic' than GTR. It's just the way these cars are. And besides, the quality of racing is exponentially higher in GTL than GTR. People are able to concentrate on racing the guy next to them instead of just keeping the car on the track.
