iPod Touch v iPhone

Post by Nigel »

Ok so my iPod is starting to die, its still works ok, but its not as stable as it used to be and I was thinking of replacing it. The question is, do I go the iPod touch an iPhone or an iPod classic. I am leaning towards a iPod Touch, but don't know if its better to go the iPhone and get a phone with the ipod. So I will though it over to those who have the iPhone and or iPod touch for some info.

get an old ipod mini, and mod it with a 8/16GB CF card.. using CF card also increases the battery life heaps.

i have an old ipod mini sitting here waiting for just that.. ill do it one day when i get around to buying a CF card for it.

I guess it depends on which one your students prefer. :D

it depends really, if you get the iphone you get everything in one. so you dont have to lug a phone and a mp3 player around. which is nice. other than that iphone and ipod touch are the same. except one has phone capabilities.

Like what Neil started to say, it does depend on what you want from it. Happy with your current phone? On a plan? Planning on buying an iPhone outright ($800 ish) or on a phone plan? (cheap as $168).

The specs are also slighty different. Things each has differently (at a quick overview);

iPhone: (Tech Specs)
  • GPS
    Camera
    UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
    GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
    8GB or 16GB
iPod Touch: (Tech Specs)
  • Nike + iPod support built in
    8GB, 16GB or 32GB
If it were me, id take the iPhone everytime :)

depends on if you need a new phone or not..

I dont think I could justify a touch when the phones are subsidised on plans..

iPod Touch and iPhone are cool toys (internet, games, etc...), but they're not the best music players as their massive screens really suck the batteries dry. If you want a *music player* I'd suggest something else.

You know there was a time when I would have gone for the alternative, just to be, well alternative. There was a time I would have gone for something other than the iPod just because I liked to be difficult. But perhaps I am older now, and really what I want is something that works. Not half works, not almost works, not works with some idiosyncrasies. One that works without fucking around. I think that is why Mac / iPod have grown on me. Admittedly, I didn't have to pay for the last iPod, I found it. But I never quite get peoples problem with iTunes. I pug the iPod in, itunes puts the stuff on it that I want with issue or hassle. With the others there is to much fucking around, configure this set up that. I can't be bothered with it any more.
