I have tried so hard to watch tennis, but it just bores the shit out of me. Even when two hot russian chicks are playing.

hmm dunno, i guess its like anything.. some people cant see the interest in F1, cricket, and golf etc either. I played comp tennis for about 10 years growing up, and got pretty damn good.. captaining penant sides where everyone else was in their mid to late 20s, and i was only about 18. But maybe having an in depth knowledge of the game helps... not just the rules i mean, but the tactics i can see them using. You can get some just ripper matches, real edge of the seat biting nails stuff... id say you see one of those kind of epic 5 set matches, you could well see the appeal.

Its the screaming I can't stand. You know its for no other reason than to upset the other player. It spoils my viewing which is tenuous to begin with when it comes to tennis. I don't know why, but Cricket is far me entertaining to watch than tennis, the tennis just bores me.

I was planning on attending the Brisbane International for something to due during my holidays, only to discover the cheapest tickets for any game are something like $40, even for a first round match between relative no-names.

That pretty much killed any interest the I had.
Call me cheap if you want, I've paid that much to watch football, ice-hockey and Sprintcars... the different being that was all stuff I was really interested in.

yeah thats a bit much for one match, you can get aussie open tickets for a day where you can just wander around to all the different outdoor courts, so you could watch half a match if you wanted and go look somewhere else, or work out who was playing on what court and when. Ive never been to the arenas, they do cost a lot.

Ah, well I may stand correted then.

They were offering a "ground-pass" for significantly less, however, from I what I could determine it indeed didn't give you access to any of the arenas.
When I enquired last week, there wasn't even a game draw completed. And there was no mention of outdoor courts or any games that this pass would give us access to. I figured it was a general admission thing, but from what I could determine, you'd pay for $10 to wander around, mingle, hob-knob, and buy shit... without seening any tennis. Didn't make any sense to me, so I said screw it.

So if this pass does give you access to the games, they'd hidden the fact well and made it bloody confusing... surely I'm not that stupid.

Indeed - Golf, anyone?

In my experience, the atmosphere generated by the crowd can often be a major highlight of sporting events.

(edit - the crown? what kind of atmoshpere is the Queen going to generate? methane?!)

Have you ever tried embroidery? Fuck it takes some skill, but I wouldn't watch it.

I have played loads of golf, but I will be fucked if I can watch it. Unless I need a good sleep.

I enjoy watching the Australian Open, even if the Aussie's don't make it. That's about all the tennis I can handle though :)

Funny you mention that.

<Japan rant>
In Japan there's a ton more airtime for embroidery than for tennis.

My students used to tell me their favourite sport was Tennis (usually because they played it). I'd then ask them who their favourite tennis player was. Every student responded with silence - they had no idea about famous tennis players.

The Williams' match today was good. Close two last sets :)

You know, I love that attitude! Who the hell cares about "pro" tennis players and sitting in front of the screen watching it. If I like the sport I play. good on them!

I like to watch the Aussie open & Wimbledon. Not too bothered by anything else.

Thank God Hewitt lost. Tosser. :)
