Fixin' a dunny
Our toilet seems to wanna keep filling up, but the water just drains into the bowl without the reservoir getting anywhere. We sometimes have a problem similar where the water fills about half way and then the float will get stuck, and all you have to do is give it a nudge and all is good, but this is different. At the moment ive had to turn the water off because its just draining away into the bowl, ive tryed fiddling with what i can see but i really arn't sure. Anyone have any ideas??

It's probably broken the lever off from the float to the 'plug'. Can pick them up at any plumbing place for about $30-$50 (I think). Replace the lot, it's easier that way

cheers... i might have to do that. Although its 'fixed' for now... not sure what i did, aside from turning the tap up full and vigerously flushing. Its working for now, but who knows if it will keep working.

If it just just draining to the bowl, it sounds like a seal is fucked. See viewtopic.php?p=194825#p194825
Might need to replace the seal.
Might need to replace the seal.

could be either the inlet or the outlet seal, depending on the brand of your cistern, should cost you no more than $10. Alternatively you can replace the inlet valve with something called a Quietflow, Silentflush or Fluidmaster, they are all much of a muchness and should cost you $25 to $40.
