Please be careful about posting results in threads discussing current sporting events.
Where possible can the first person to start a thread on an event add *spoilers included* (or similar) to the thread title so that all discussion on the event is kept in one place and readers are aware that the content may contain the results.

It's an amazing bit of footage that one, and the most mental part about it for me is that he was only 1.8 seconds quicker than the next fastest (Gronholm in the 206).
And the crash happened just two stages later:
I believe the seeds for that crash were sown at the previous event, Rally Australia, and that (current F1 steward) Garry Connelly helped to sow them.
It was by far the maddest motorsport viewing experience I've ever had. It didn't start well when I almost got run over by some knobhead in a Subaru when we arrived. It was so close that the wing mirror broke on on my hip as he came past us, on his way to crashing into a parked car.
And we were totally unprepared for the event. For the last stage we kept walking further down the track to try different views but hadn't considered getting back. We couldn't get through the trees so had to walk back down the rally stage as it turned to total darkness. Only one of us had a torch so as soon as we heard the whistle signalling a car was coming, he'd point it at the side of the road and we'd scramble into the bushes before a car came screaming past. Utterly stupid.

That was and absolute cracker of a race before that. They were both giving it buggery until then. It's odd that Werner hit him on the straight because the Ferrari was quicker out of the corners. Must have been a missed gear.

It looks to me from the image in that youtube link that Alesi spun the rears up. I might be wrong
