We're a long way off full road car autonomy from that.

Roborace car proves it's possible to go up Goodwood hill autonomously
Both runs went without incident. The second video, shows that the car managed to maintain its position in the middle of the road most of the way, though it looks like it was making many back-and-forth corrections. It also went up slower than many piloted cars. But in an event where the bar is simply not crashing into walls, it did phenomenally well.

Re: cool racing videos
The constant corrections are a bit weird, like it's doing its position from scratch every second and not plotting very far ahead. Would be interesting to see how a tesla or any of the other autonomous cars handle it. They'd be a lot smoother I think.

Re: cool racing videos
That's a course with no other obstacles or traffic or pedestrians and it still took an ages to go up making odd acceleration and deceleration and side to side movements. It's almost as simple as it can get without cars, lorries, bikes, kids, dogs etc etc etc.ysu wrote:What makes you say that?Big Kev wrote:We're a long way off full road car autonomy from that.

Re: cool racing videos
Wickes crash at Pocono in the Indycar series was pretty full on. RHR was super lucky as he passed back under the wreck as it took the roll over hoop camera off!
Glad Wickes is ok albeit with broken ankles and a few other injuries that will keep him out of the car a while. Could have been so much worse. Pitty, Wickes has been pretty darn handy in his rookie year so far this year.
Won't link the video, it's on YouTube tho.

Re: cool racing videos
That was nasty. I think it's 2 broken legs, broken arm, bruised lung, and possibly the most serious one is the spinal injury. They haven't said a lot just yet about his back but they're operating on that one first. Sometimes they don't know how bad it'll be until the swelling goes down. There's been a bunch of guys who have had nasty accidents going into the catch fencing over the years. Off the top of my head there was Brack, Briscoe, Franchitti, who all survived but were pretty badly messed up. And Krosnoff, Renna, Wheldon that died.

Spinal cord injury doesn't sound great.

Re: cool racing videos
That was a nasty, nasty shunt. Wickens is lucky to have survived. Let's hope he can recover to a normal life.
Pocono in an Indycar must be frightening it's legacy in that series is not good.

I was amazed at how far forward his head was considering he's wearing a HANS. I wonder if something broke.
