I've not paid any attention to LFS since we all stopped racing...
Does anybody actually care about LFS development anymore?

No, not really.

It is amusing to read all the brown nosing apologists on the LFS forums though

It's a shame it's taking so long, but it won't stop me going back to it again. The tracks are great fun and there's a huge variety of cars. Rallycross is something No other game does as well as it does.

I'll be waiting.

I can't work this out - what are they actually doing with LFS?

Investing in a new website suggests they intend to keep working on it but selling hosting? An easy way to make a few quid I suppose but what an odd direction to take the brand.

I'm completely baffled by the whole situation.

They're gearing up to release S3. Surely they'll need a massive graphics update to get people back from current sims. Scawen did say somewhere that they were going to update the models and he is working on rendering improvements, but I don't think that would be enough. They should have opened it up to modders instead of letting it die. At least track mods.

No, the Scirocco and Rockingham have not yet been released. They will be released eventually. It's really a long story with many twists and turns but here is a short version.

The Scirocco will be released as S1 content, so it will be available to S1 and S2 licensed users. The delay is because we want to release the car with the new tyre physics which is still in development, and that development took a lot longer than expected. Tyre models are hard.

Rockingham will be S3 content. We originally wanted to release the updated tyre physics before the initial S3 release but we decided we don't need to wait for that any more. If Eric can get Rockingham and another track finished before I get the tyre physics done, then we can do an initial S3 release at that point.

Anyway, an updated Westhill track is coming soon. After that, I'll be back on the tyre physics and Eric will be back on the S3 content. It will be several months before that lot is ready.

For anyone who doesn't know this, you don't need to hold off buying S2 because you think S3 is coming soon. You only pay the difference in license prices when you later upgrade, there's no penalty.

Aye, that's what they are saying but there's no evidence that development of S3 has even started as far as I can tell so I'm more than a little sceptical. Obviously they're not fantasists like the West Brothers but something clearly changed some time ago that put a halt on development.

Perhaps Scawen got hired by somebody, perhaps he just lost interest or fancied a new path; who knows. The bottom line is we haven't seen anything significant from them for a long, long time despite "coming soon" type messages popping up every few months.

And not much talk of other cars to be released.
