I am wholly baffled by the toilet roll thing. Am I right in thinking it started because of an Australian TV feature?

Happened in Hong Kong a month ago after a rumour spread that supply would be cut off because it's all imported from China. Australia might just be the first western country the rumour spread to, even though we're not dependent on China for supply. Turns out strict quarantine can't keep out bullshit.

https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/hea ... -goods-fly

It also happened in Japan a few days before Aus and it's not the first time it's happened there.

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2020/ ... ronavirus/

"In 1973, after Arab countries embargoed oil exports to Japan, there were sometimes violent scenes of panicked buyers grabbing toilet paper. There were also buying sprees after the March 11, 2011, mega-quake and tsunami."

I thought it was going on in the US before it happened here, after shelves were emptied here I bought a few 24 packs as soon as I could because our office was almost out and not wanting to be found short. I'm sure some people have enough for the next year.
