I hope it would become a permanent thing ......I had so much hope for the 24 hour :(
Then what they can do is add the extra pit complex going from shell corner up the side of mountain straight to add more cars just like what Spa did :yummy:

Really I cant see why we cant create a 12 / 24 hour event that would easily rival Spa, LeMans, Nurburg :D

The way I read it, they're looking to run a 12 hour with GT3's next year in order to gauge interest in running a 24 hour event in the future. So if it goes well it could be a one off as far as being a 12 hour event is concerned :)

That was a wobbly mis-quote.

If they run it, it will be a stand-alone event, not part of the normal Australian GT championship. That got translated into wobbly-speak as a "once-off" event.

Yep, that's the way I read it too.

What im wondering is how are they going to just tell the production guys, hi guys thanks for revamping this event and making it what it is but we are going to have to relegate you to being a lower category during the race and the gt cars are going to take the lime light now.

Its a really tough spot to be in. Because us as spectators really want to see the gt cars join the field and make it even more spectacular then the 1000 race but i think its very unfair on the production guys.

And at the same time its pretty much impossible to make another standalone gt race because its cost prohibitive and will directly compete with the production race.

Some how they have to combine the 2 without mucking around with the production guys too much but perhaps giving them a few more freedoms to do with exhausts, brake packages and slick tyres to make them quicker resulting in a safer speed disparity to the gt cars and also making them more exciting to watch so they dont get lost as the boring cars of the event.

Well the decision has been made and confirmed.

All classes of the australian gt championship are able to join the b12 hr race for 2011. This is going to make or break this event.

Anywy on a positive note here are some pictures from this years event.

Camp sites easy to come by for this race? Or is it like the V8 Supercars with waiting lists as far as the eye can see? :P

hell yeah! :)
it's going to be "interesting", the GT class will create a huge speed difference I reckon.

It's prolly more likely to see a corolla screwed by something really fast...
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

Hopefully someone is warning them all to keep an eye out for a yellow Ascari, surely it'll be in the briefing :D

But wouldn't a more appropriate warning for the briefing be just to not ask it's driver for an autograph in the first place?

The Ascari is for sale to, still asking $300k for it, not sure if that is in its current state or a repaired one though.

Looks like I'll be heading up for the race in Feb, camping behind the pits I'm told. Anyone else going to make it to the race?

Im probably going to be there as well with a mate or 2.

Its feb 4-6 this year.

Im still a bit sceptical about how many gt cars are going to turn out, but so far some good cars have been confirmed. Audi is bringing out its joest factory r8's for the race with lowndes and warren luff teamed up in one. They are getting hit with some pretty heavy parity but i still get the feeling they are going to rule the race.

Sadly the TMR team has pulled out as it has no wish to be a class winner.

Saturday has the group a and c touring cars racing on the mountain which will be awesome!

Yeah its my 40th birthday that weekend!!! All ARSE should be in attendance!

Im also a bit worried about the entry numbers.. entries were supposed to be closed Dec 23 and they haven't announced the entry list yet. Be a shame if there were only 20 odd cars :(

entries will be closed, but two things happen... most drivers will be double entered in multiple car teams, so these things will not firm up until it gets a lot closer...

it gets pretty hard to put out a full entry list until the final political shuffle stuff goes down...

I really wanna go to one of these, but a 24 hour would interest me more. I always remember them too late, I need a reminder service or a calender type thing on my pc, you know, like something that could change my whole "outlook" on things... if only hey!!!
