I know it was a evo fest last year, but at least we knew it was a competitive race with a heap of cars in it to win it. If ford and a few other manufacturers had got off there colective asses and entered factory teams it could have been a amazing production car only event.

Even this year the manufacturers could have got involved. Australian motorsport is a joke compared to the rest of the world its so frustrating.

I was happy with the Evo fest from last year, because we still had a big turnout with a bunch of different cars. :(

Im finding its a tough decision on wether to go or not this year. Im just not convinced that by having the gt cars there that it will be a exciting race.

I would love to see the group a and c support races, but even then only 20 cars are turning up and half the cars are driven around by amateurs without the ability or balls to put the car through its paces.

You could always go to a V8 race instead... I hear they are exciting. :)

Don't take it out of context, but it is not very fair to be critical of Australian Motorsport, and then not support it when it tries something new... Australian motorsport is nothing becuase the fans do not support it... why would the manufacturers get involved when they think nobody is going to turn up to watch... they will get involved if the people show them why they need to get involved... otherwise it will stay bogun V8 land forever.

You could wait for next year when it finds some legs, if it gets there when nobody supports it at the start...

Ive been to the last 2 12 hours in a row, and i also attended the sports car festival at eastern creek last year specifically for the gt races so im definately not the type to just bag it without giving it a go.

How many years did the 12 hr have to exist before multiple manufacturers got involved, holden and mitsubishi were the only manufacturers to genuinely support it. If the manufacturers got involved with big name drivers then you would see the fan support.

Imagine if in the previous years you had a factory audi, bmw, mercedes, holden/hsv, FPV, Subaru etc effort. Then you would have the fans streaming through the gates.

Ive just got a bad feeling that instead of seeing a race with so many different cars in it to win it like previous years that we are going to see a small field spread out by huge gaps by the end. And when you have to drive 3 hours or more to get there in the first place it makes the whole thing a difficult proposition.

Totally understand what you are saying, it is a problem with the sport overall.

it is a circular argument... if fans do not start streaming through the gate, the likes of audi, bmw, mercedes, holden/hsv, FPV, Subaru etc have no confidence that it is worth the effort to spend any money...

they will only spend money on something that is going to see a return, which is standard business practice.

if it costs them a 300K to do the event, they have to sell a shit load of cars to get that back... and that is just not car sales, it is extra car sales... because if they don't spend the money, they do not need to sell the extra cars...

I think that a country with 22million population does pretty well for motorsport, we have a series that employs a large number of people, and has created some household names, produced 2 x World Drivers Champions and has a member currently winning Formula 1 Grand Prix's. Add that to our isolation it is quite impressive...

This is not the kind of event I'd go to for the racing, I would just go for the atmosphere, nothing better than going for a camp, looking at cars fly by. Come to think of it, I probably would not even watch that much of the Race.

Definitely gonna make the journey next year! If not for blasted weddings I would be there this year!!! grrr

i'd love to go to it, but not enough to travel half way across the country to do it. I must admit I do like the field more this year than it being all Fast and Furious cars. I'd rather see Ferrari's, Astons, Audi sportscars etc than some decent 4 door road cars. I find the idea of a BMW 335i winning a bit boring, they are real estate agents cars. Production car racing has it's place, but not as a premier category in a big race like this. Lowndes being there will help attract some interest which will be good. Hopefully next year it'll grow and attract some more popular divers from here and overseas.

Yeah Id have to agree with BCup, we do ok motorsport wise for a population of 22million..

Its a shame the main form of motorsport turned into a Ford v Holden battle during the 80's and 90's but thats what happens when the manufacturers run the show..

I personally think we need to keep em out of production car racing..

Anyway, ill be there, and be good to have an ARSE meet at a pub in town on the Friday night..!
