It is a commission piece, his building skills have gone way beyond our paying skills (and just quietly, 10c pp is a fairly significant under estimation :)!

Oh, and no comment on the audition question (although I can confirm you won't see him on TV, in the near future at least :)

It's on display in the foyer of the actual Ucity building, 43 Franklin St. It's just inside the front door, on the right.

Does he use LDD or Stud.io or anything like that?

Great to see the recognition he's getting.

He uses LDD. IMHO Stud.io has surpassed it in features and stability, but he learned in LDD and he's happier using it for now rather than needing to adapt.

If anyone from Vic is interested in seeing it in person, this building with be on Display at Brickvention, Australia's biggest Lego show on January 18th and 19th.

Cool. I had my first bash at Stud.io recently to create a building that we're building here in real life. The ordering through bricklink makes it so easy. ImageImage

Nice! Stud.io does great renders too!

Connor's current personal project is a 1/1000 scale model of Adelaide city which is very similar to that, just slightly smaller scale than that I think.

This microscale stuff is stupidly expensive though. He's designed about 4 times more of the city than he's built, but what you see above was $1000 worth of Lego. He'll be using some of the earnings from his work to expand that as he can.

We had a play with importing the model from Stud.io into Unity and viewing it in VR. The whole model struggled for framerate, needs some serious optimisation and deleting of parts/studs/tubes not visible, but we did import the Adelaide oval part of the model and added planes flying over and tiny cars and buses driving around, that worked really well. Standing in the middle of the oval watching a plane fly past (and then switching to a camera sitting over the wing flying over the oval) was very cool. For anyone who's flown into Adelaide and looked down on the oval, it's really effective. Will see if I can upload the file for anyone with VR who wants to have a look. Would love to find some time to have more of a play with VR Lego, especially if we can find a way for it to work for shows/displays.

That's so cool. Yeah, the cost is crazy - that building was as cheap as I could get it with the colour all in LBG. And it was still $200.

3.5 hrs in so far. Part 1 is done - the gearbox and rear suspension. Had to back track a tiny bit after putting the rear diff in backwards on step 4 and not noticing until step 92!!!!! :cens: :cens: :cens: :rtfm:

After fitting the gearbox I realised the driveshaft didn't go round any more so had to take some bits off to get at the suspension to remove that too and then get the diff out, turn it round and then work out what I'd removed and how to refit it without starting from scratch!!

Got up to step 290 today. About 2/3rds of the way through Part 2.
Engine , front suspension, front gearbox, steering, all done. And joined the front to the back!!

Tomorrow I'll finish this part off and try and get the interior done.

Sounds like you're enjoying it Kev.
Which gearbox needed the rework, was it the rear one?
Also any build pics you can share?

I did the rear box wrong. It's hugely complicated to build. I'd hate to be 11 years old making this. It requires a lot of concentration.

I'm filming a time lapse so I'll put it up when it's all done. I'm about 6 hours in so far and probably 6-8 to go.

Had...

It lasted about 10 minutes after midnight last night (for the good stuff). To coincide with Big W's massive toy sale. Their good stuff went just as fast.

There's a nationwide shortage on Lego. Isolation + Lego Masters airing and then to cap it off Lego's national distributor got hacked last month and Lego shipments to stores slowed to a trickle.

I find the density of parts in the technic vehicles amazing! The idea of designing something like this from scratch blows my mind.

Absolutely. Very few pieces are more than 4-5 'lugs' long, except for the chassis and some of the outer bodywork. It's mainly rods, connector clips and small pieces with cross slots or holes in a strip or at 90 degrees to each other. It's incredibly lego dense. The intricacy of how some of these parts fit together is amazing, as you say, goodness knows how you even start to think about designing it.
