OMFG its awesome! They say this is a taste of what we can expect when this crew start releasing mods for Rfactor. Well its the best mod for GTR IMHO. Yes even better than the V8 mod which is awesome. These things are tail happy sliding little jobbies and I havent had so much fun for a long time in a race sim.

keep your eyes peeled. might see some cheap, near new copies for sale soon.w00dsy wrote:I might have to buy this game(GTR), it looks good and the mods are tops.
personally, i havent fired mine up for 3 weeks.
In my non shit fight starting opinion, GTR is the worst racing sim going around at the moment for the online racer. Awesome game and if I didnt get my jollies off by racing online, I would say its the best thing going around. But I do all my racing online and I dont rate this game at all.
Sad thing is that it is a really immersive game. When I got it I had a huge wow factor. Then I tried it online. Still enjoyed it and could see past the bugs. But I shouldnt have to.

It's been a long time since a game came along where people didn't have constant arguments over whether or not the physics are correct. We're all 'experts' in this field despite none of us having really driven these GT cars and yet I saw very little in the way of discussion of the physics. Everyone just accepted them as they are - awesome. They really feel like a race car should.
Pity about the online - if it was good then we'd have the best road racing sim on the market. As it it we only have the best offline road racing sim.

I am yet to see an AI that you can have a really close race with, lap after lap. Once you learn how to beat them, it gets pretty damned boring. I realise the really good online races are few and far between, but when they do happen, they shit all over the AI.w00dsy wrote:The opposition in offline rarely take you and half the feild out. Online- It sucks to know you may get taken out in T1 of a race you are looking forward to.
Offline It sucks to know that the only person that can fuck up your race in T1 is you.
Offline lacks the human factor. you dont get the 'mother of all fuckups' by the AI.
I reckon each has their merits and also each have their place. It comes down to personal taste at the time.

I can remember I had a damn good N2002 race online on a Sunday morn with a few Arse guys a long time ago. We had AI in it and set them fairly high so we could draft them at Daytona and boy did we have to work for it. That was my best online race.
But I find alot of the time I just like to drive some laps. I test alot as I like going against the clock to better my lap times so I'm really enjoying GTR. Still N2003 and the good old GPL are the best for online.
I gave up playing N2003 as like others have said here too many people bitching for restarts. Although I did plant one guy farking awesome into turn 1 at Atlanta once. Fark did he bitch. I think he's car is still in the concrete of turn 1 too. But he's connection was shit and he was warping alot.

I just got the Escort mod going and fuck me if that's not the most fun i've had in ages. I thought Spa would just be a big flat out fang but it was a tail happy terror ride and i just couldn't stop. I kept thinking, ok i'll just do one more lap. Man this is a top mod. Got the V8 mod going and that's fun as well, but more like the GTR cars, keep em straight and they are good. But the Escorts just love the soiled pants dance.

As a dial up poorboy, i am mainly limited to offline. LFS provided a good fix of online stuff (even if i was on the public servers and it was a bit of a lottery who you were going to get). But with GTR i really enjoy racing offline and the quality of the game. The online game bugs don't bother me as i can't race online anyways.
AI will always be AI. But GTR certainly does a good job of it. Thumbs up to the GTR crew from a guy who enjoys offline racing
by the way - this escort mod sounds like fun
