2010/11 Summer of Cricket

It would be, except for the fact that England has already won what matters.

The walk to the cricket ground was quite pleasant today...

VT might not know the answer to that, but I am sure he has a comment... :D

A policeman in Sydney pulls over a male driver who has been weaving in and out of traffic, approaches the car window and says to the driver: "Sir, I need you to blow into this breathalyser." The driver reaches into his pocket and produces a doctor's note, on which is written: 'This man suffers from chronic asthma. Please do not make him perform any action that may leave him short of breath.' The policemen says: "Okay but I need you to come and give a blood sample." The man produces another letter, on which is written: 'This man is haemophiliac. Please do not cause him to bleed in any way.' The policeman says: "Right. In that case I need a urine sample." The man produces a third letter from his pocket on which is written: 'This man plays cricket for Australia. Please do not take the piss out of him.

So.... The world cup has come and gone and no real post about it.

Anyhow, did anyone catch Wattos innings just now? Must have been a ripper to watch even if it was against the bangers. I just logged in to see how we were traveling and it was all over

185 off 96 balls is some good hitting.

Just found some of the highlights, that was some woeful bowling but amazing hitting. That should shutup the nonsense about letting the minnows into the World Cup again really, I mean there are 2 test teams that should not be there next time.
Awesome effort by Watto, smashed them by 9 wickets with 24 overs to spare and the game was not as close as that score might suggest!

Do you mean teams like Bangladesh shouldn't be allowed to play in the world cup? Yes they get smashed by the top sides, but how else are these teams going to improve unless they get to play the better teams as well.

Not all of them should be there. Some sort of qualifying tournament with the best 2 getting through should be enough.
If there was any sign of progress then things might be different but it has been over 20 years now and their standard has not improved. Sri Lanka started out at a similar level and now look at them, within 10 years they went from easy beats to respectable. Just can not say the same about Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, who are in fact going backwards.

The 2011 World Cup was a disgrace. It took over 1 month just to get to the Quarter finals - in comparison, the footy World Cup deals with 32 teams and they have everything over and done with in 1 month for the whole comp. The Cricket World Cup needs to be streamlined A LOT and they either need to decide for the next World Cup to either to follow the Football World Cup (have groups of 4 - 4 groups of 4 if there's enough interest) OR possibly even have qualifying matches or take the results from the previous 12 months to World Cup itself to give your nation/team a ranking and the Top 10 make it. Rest can GTFO.

Once you get the desired number, the round robin shit should only take 7 - 10 days. Then you decide the Quarters, play them over 2 days. Take a day to rest, play the semis over 2 days, take a day or 2 to rest and then the GF.

Doing the math - with 8 teams you could do the round robin thing (everyone playing everyone!), with Semi Finals and a few allocated rest days in 3 weeks.
With 10 teams, you can do the 2 Group thing with Quarters, Semis and the GF in less than 3 weeks with Rest Days and byes (odd numbers in each group - but a rest period ensured for teams!)
And doing 4 x 4 groups like the Footy World Cup, You'd have Round of 16, Quarters, Semis and GF in 3 weeks.

I don't know how it was so wrong in India. Oh wait, they wanted to get as much money as possible through accommodation.
