i just did my first ride in the rain since i was a kid, it's a bit fuckin harder than in the dry. It started as just a light drizzle, and i was counting on it easing up, but it got heavier, so did my clothes and my legs. It makes head winds more fun too when it's blowing straight into your eyes. I normally ride with sunglasses on but they were as wet as Stephen Hawkings morning nappy after about 1km so i reckon i squinted almost the whole way. The good thing is it meant i had no walkers on the paths. Actually i had one couple, i went to ring my masculine bell and it just went thud instead of BLING.

I don't mind riding in the rain , I just don't like having to clean the bike afterwards . Only a couple of short rides for me last week , 40ks on Friday and 50ks on Saturday afternoon in the rain . Unfortunatly the knee and hip are still giving me a bit of pain :(

i'm the same. I've had some awesome rides through the adelaide hills in the rain, but the cleaning afterwards is not so much fun.. so i try to limit going out in the rain.

My first Tour Down Under challenge tour was in torrential rain.. i remember doing 70km/h+ downhill, ineffective brakes and a wall of spray from hundreds of other riders in front of me.. intense! :D

No sigs working atm. Probably just a glitch.

If it doesn't come back I'll make one.

People at ACF saying the same.

I wonder if it would be easier to use Strava or similar so as people arent entering stuff into multiple sites? I know it drives me nuts. I havent updated BJ for a week. :)

upload to strava
upload into Sporttracks

Yep.

1. Sync with Rubitracks. http://www.rubitrack.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2. Upload to Strava and Garmin
3. Update spreadsheet (once a week or so)
4. Update BikeJournal (once a week or so)

If your year-to-date km is displayed in plain text on the page somewhere (not an image or flash), then I should be able to get it from whatever site you prefer.

If it just has individual rides instead of a total then I should be able to add them up. I tried to do it that way initially with bikejournal but individual rides were only available for premium members.

I'll have a look at strava to see if I can find it.

Darren, YTD total km's are on each riders profile page, it seems to be text only from what I can tell, mine can be found here: http://app.strava.com/athletes/5612" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Although my green bar seems to be recording properly after last night's update.

Yep my BJ total is 54km's more than my Strava.
Not entirely sure why but I am wondering if Strava does some sort of background rounding of individual ride distances?
So using Strava may mean we fall further behind the run-rate worm... :(

I agree there is way to many recordings options, here is my routine.
upload to Strava - all rides
update BJ - all rides (only do this so it is recorded for our ARSE challange, wouldn't use it otherwise)
upload to Garmin Connect - selected rides only (mainly as you can export each ride if you ever loose it elsewhere. The site has been a pig lately)
upload to SportsTracks - all rides (although I have been pretty slack with this, currently 3 months behind now. But I like to have a local (client) copy & not rely on a website for my archive)
That's it, don't run a seperate spreadsheet as ST can export as CSS etc.

I would hazard a guess that the discrepancy between Strava/Garmin and BJ is user error at BJ. I had a difference of 11kms at one point this year. I had made errors entering in 2 rides.

EDIT: Well, maybe I am wrong. My Strava and garmin reports are different as well. :p They should be importing the exact same rides.

If you ave ever opened the .GPX file in an HTML editor you will see there are actually 2 different sets of data points.
There is like a header which is supposedly the totals then the rest of the data are the individual data points.
What I have discovered (in ST) is that there is an option you can change which will use one set of data or the other.
When you change it there is some changes to total ride distance, time (takes out resting time) as well as other data points.
So maybe it also depends on what data table each site uses as it main source.

Ive been thinking about not recording my rides anymore. Ill probably wait until next year to do it but it seems the more i get into riding the more complex it becomes. I've been doing a bit of running with my son lately and not tracking them and its really refreshing to just go out and come back without worrying about it. Its a bit weird at first but its amazing how it changes your view on why you're actually out there.

I love all the stats.

I tend to ride more when I have a goal. There have been days when I thought I couldn't be arsed, then thought, I better make the effort. Got out and as per usual, loved it.

I can see how it would be different for different people though.

I'm like norbs but I have heaps of mates that are like w00dsy, some don't even have bike computers they just ride.
I totally get both points of view and at the end of the day we do this for the enjoyment no matter what motivates us to get out there.
That's the beauty of this great pastime in my opinion. :)

I've updated my program to get the data from strava, so if you'd prefer that over bikejournal let me know your strava id. I've switched norbs and Flinty over.

I'll sort out an alternative sig next.

Darren, is there a bug in your system? It doesnt seem to match up with Strava at the moment. Even taking out todays ride.
