Milestone ride for me this morning. 100,000km logged on Strava.
I had to push myself out the door for this one, as i didn't want to clock over this achievement on the trainer.

Assuming i strava-stalked Hutchy and his mates correctly, I think Hutchy preferred to do a 90-odd km "indoor trainer ride" rather than ride with his mates up Norton Summit. yay Wahoo!

He did manage a pretty ripper time up Anstey Hill however :o

So my take away from that is I am faster up Norton than Hutchy! Nice.

Somehow I missed this thread.......yep Norbs you are!! I was having a ripper of a ride till and not sure how my wahoo switched to trainer mode.

Well after many very lean years of riding this year was the most I've ridden since 2011.
My time / distance was pretty much a 50/50 split between virtual & outdoor rides.
I have to thank norbs really as he helped to convince me it was worth getting a smart trainer & by golly I love it... I honestly can't believe how much time I can sit on a trainer these days.

took a day off yesterday and headed out for a ride.

didn't go quite as planned Attempted hit-run. Police report made last night, and it sounds like the dickhead will be getting a fine at the least.

not really looking forward to trying to get payment for damages from the driver or driver's insurance. :/ could have been much worse though.

On the plus side, the ride was generally awesome #positivethinking

bruising on the right hip and upper leg. Bit of an overall ache on the right back/shoulder. Bruising appears to be going down already, which is good. Don't think there's any other damage to me that is of concern, thankfully.

by the way a fine is BS, the driver should be facing court for dangerous driving causing injury as a minimum as it was an intentional act.

Do you run any camera's on the bike?
I know it doesn't stop dickheads who target cyclists but at least you have a better chance of identifying them & for the authorities to take your side of the story seriously.
And the more of these dickheads know that cyclists now run camera's the more they will think twice before targeting law abiding cyclists.

If you can't tell I am farken furious to hear of this, I have had too many experiences of this type of behaviour that my thick skin for it as all but gone.

I don't run cameras on that bike. My experience has (sadly) been that the cameras aren't taken particularly seriously, and in close passing situations they don't show the actual point of the close pass (ie side on). Then there's the apparent need to be able to identify the driver ("no officer, i didn't see who was driving as I was too busy trying to stay alive" ).

in some ways, the guy is lucky that i caught him and made him give me details. Apparently hit-and-run is an arrestable offence, so had I (for example) just got a photo of his plate and he took off without stopping and exchanging details, that would have applied.

Interestingly (and bewilderingly), the officer taking my statement seemed to think that the 1 metre passing law would be hard to prove. I just don't get it. How much closer does a driver have to get before that law kicks in? Apparently "failure to keep a safe distance" is the likely charge. Not sure what the difference is in outcome.

Pretty much. It's used as a educational 'tool' for the most part, and as a seen-to-be-doing-something item for the government. End result is that those that were passing safely, continue to do so, and those that were deliberately close passing continue to do so.

It's law in VIC now, since New Year.
1 metre up to 80km/hr zones then 2mtrs over 80km/hr zones.
Haven't seen any change in driver behaviour cause of it.
Also hardly any media aroung it either, not sure why I pay for Bicycling Victoria membership. lol

Miss V and I got back on Sunday from Bicycle SA's Outback Odyssey, which is ~2 weeks of riding the Mawson trail (Adelaide to Blinman). The event had been sold out very early, and while we initially missed out on a spot, but we were fortunate that 2 spots plus deluxe camping opened up just before Christmas.

Weather conditions were pretty much spot on for the entire time unlike in 2019. I think it'll be a *long* time before we get such favourable conditions!

Total distance (including ride to and from the event, and pootling around towns on the rest days): 966.5km
Total elapsed time: 61 hours, 17 minutes
Total elevation gain: 10,583m

I'll post some photos up once i've gone through and processed them!
