Mob grinder doesnt work like it used to.

Has there been any changes that would stop mob grinders working of late?

I have one that is still working well in a SP world I started months ago.

Just the other day I started a new SP world as an experiment, using the seed word of ARSE.

I have spent a bit of time building the grinder, the same as the other world. The monsters are generating nicely, and they fall into the water chute, but when the hit the lava, nearly all of them don't drop the goodies.

I have noticed a drop in the number of mobs spawning in grinders on the multiplayer map since 1.3, but not in the drops from them. Do you have blocks directly above the lava blade so the mobs can't jump above it and burn their drops that way?

Alright, looks like since 1.4_01 something has gone on with spawns, been checking out a few of the grinders on the ARSEville server, not one of the ones I looked at is dropping any items, tried restarting the server thinking there might be a problem there but to no avail. Are the days of the grinder numbered.

May I suggest a drowner instead of a lava blade? I was having the same problems, only getting around 30% of the drops. I changed the end to a drowner and now get 100% of drops. It's on the server that's temp-moved to Shonky's atm if you want to have a look.

I have a new theory. It seems like the loot does drop, but not as often as it used to. Also, it seems to disappear if you don't pick it up quick enough. I had a creeper drop 2 gunpowders. I also threw so slime balls into the drowning tank. They went down the water conveyor. I left them there and went and built a new level of the grinder. Came back and the loot was gone.

I've also noticed my underground mob grinder stops spawning when its deep underground and lots of slimes are nearby.

Even killing creepers and skeletons doesn't seem to reap the benefits it used to.
