Re: Your Next Bike
Asking for a better deal for a Scott was promptly shut down at the Avantiplus dealer best he was going to do was 10% on the other bits ill have to buy.
Santa Cruz is looking more likely, as much as my bank account wants me to avoid it. Will see if the Giant dealers will help me out.

Re: Your Next Bike
Avantiplus dealers suck - Had my Giant Anthem X1 stolen recently so I'd decided to get a Scott Spark 40 as a replacement9ra55h0ppaH wrote:Asking for a better deal for a Scott was promptly shut down at the Avantiplus dealer best he was going to do was 10% on the other bits ill have to buy.
Rang up the local Avantiplus dealer who was 5 mins away from my place, they didn't have any stock but tried to sell me an Avanti Vapour in a size larger than I needed...
Spoke to another Scott dealer and they said that Scott warehouse had 12 in stock of the model and size I was after
The other dealer was about an hour drive away so I rang the Avantiplus store again and asked if they could order in the Spark 40 from the Scott warehouse - they refused, but told me if I wanted to pay full retail on it they could try to get it in
Ended up getting it from the other dealer so I'm happy now - just need to get a decent weekend to ride it

to be fair, i think if a store was crap prior to becoming an avantiplus store, they'll probably still be crap once they come under the avantiplus banner.Brett_S wrote: Avantiplus dealers suck -
LifeCycles here in adelaide is a fairly well respected store that became an avantiplus store and they're outstanding (I took Norbs there to grab his pro looking Avanti cap ) i think the difference is that they still have that small, old school bike shop mentality rather than the bicycle supermarket style that seems to be cropping up lately

Re: Your Next Bike
Went to life cycles once when looking at some of their clearance specialised stock during the changeover. Must say, second to bio mechanics they were probably the best bike shop I have ever walled in to, there was an older chap there that was so helpful and so nice even Though roadies were his specialty. Good stuff

Re: Your Next Bike
that's where Miss V and i bought our MTBs from and they were extremely helpful, going to the extent of firing up a few maps on the computer there to show us trails we could ride etc. not a big deal maybe, but a small touch that showed that they weren't out to just make a sale, they actually wanted us to enjoy our purchase and get the most out of it. One of the guys there (Ben) has recently taken up CX too so i get to race against himHz-Lab wrote:Went to life cycles once when looking at some of their clearance specialised stock during the changeover. like you, i'd probably put them marginally behind BMCR, but not by much. Those are the 2 bike stores that i usually hold up as how things should be. Unfortunately the experiences described on here by Brett_S are all too common

Surly not :P
It's a Salsa Mukluk. I'm interested in doing some epic rides and reckon these would be fun, comfy and capable of riding almost anywhere. I'm hoping to gain the fitness, endurance and resources to ride the simpson desert challenge in a few years and one of these could carve it up

Re: Your Next Bike
I went into the Santa Cruz store this afternoon, talking to the guy in there about the Avantiplus store (he used to have the Scott agency here before that takeover happened) I got so riled up about it I pulled the trigger on the Santa Cruz
ETA is 4 weeks or so, the 2013 build kits are on their way from the USA, give me some extra time to save up my pennies, and find helmet/pedals/shoes.

Re: Your Next Bike
Yeah lots of people use the big tyred bikes for the Simpson. Apparently they roll insanely good. But if you think components and maintenance is expensive now, it'll kill you if u get that lol.Enforcer-J wrote:Surly not :P

Re: Your Next Bike
Not bad price drop for a new model. Done alright. U should flog off the floats off this new one and ur old one and get a set of talas for it. In saying that, the floats, whilst not performing as good, will probably last a shitload longer and be a lot less fuss in regards to maintenance.
Good buy though, they look shit hot in the flesh.
