3G Watchdog may be able to help Neil, it's only a usage logger, but it does list usage by the app name, so you can at least figure out which apps are using data regularly.

i installed it, and it doesnt really show anything suprising. all the usage it shows is stuff i can account for. eg, i didnt touch Words with friends for 24 hours and it didnt show on the list until i used it.

Facebook showed a usage of 5k/bs after an hour (of not even opening the app) but only once and didnt update again until i used it.

So who knows.

If your still rooted try a few different modems, it seems some combinations of network, rom, modem and signal strength can cause unexplained battery drain. If signal is low the phone will boost the power to compensate using up the battery and it won't show in battery usage or any monitoring app.

For instance I ran MIUI on my Desire for quite some time but had strange battery drain, another user mentioned the same thing but just once when they went out of town to a low signal area. I liked the rom so I used 2G most of the time and used a widget to switch to 3G when I needed it. The radio (modem for samsung) is the same I've used the whole time I've had the phone, same network and with other roms including the one I use now and that's the only time I had the issue.

Recently the wife's Desire was draining the battery and I couldn't pin it down to anything, she was on a different radio to me as she had updated to gingerbread with the official release. Eventually I convinced her to let me root the phone as a last resort suspecting the official rom or the radio, I rooted it and put the same rom I use on there and it still drained, switched the radio to the old one I was using and bam, problem solved.

Don't want to get your hopes up mate but its worth a shot.

I have no idea what App has updated in the past few days, but my battery life has sky rocketed. Most nights I get a 15% warning just after dinner. The last 2 days I have gone to bed at 10PM with 40% left!

Probably Tapatalk Norbs, it was using 100% cpu before the last update for me (listed as a fix in the latest update), but introduced the crash bug I mentioned last night.

The exact problem I have.

The company who makes it promised a patch to let you disable it. But that was some time ago.

Currently very happy with battery performance.

Ah yeah, I thought it might have been Litening, bit of a bummer that the XDA folks pissed the dev of that off enough for him to walk away from developing that rom because it was one of the better ones.

for those that liked Lite'ning Rom but were annoyed that the guy stopped development, it seems someone else has been updating it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1334124" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

have to say not overly impressed, it seems alot of the same as gingerbread at the moment. few new things the unlocking is alot better, and it seems alot quicker than gingerbread. stuff installs quicker. new icons, the settings options are all sorted into some categories. pressing the home button opens up all your open apps, which is cool sort of like the alt+tab of windows 7. Going to keep it on for a few days and see how it goes. Havent had any crashes so far, it seems stable enough to use everyday.

yeha i noticed this AFTER i had rooted my phone with the New Root kernal and the fucking thing wouldnt boot... so i reflashed ICS from the 10th and then rooted it and tried to put CM7 on and CM7 had a hissy fit. sigh.

So i had to go out for aus day and now im just installing a samfirmware 2.3.5 and then once thats on ill root and then go into CM7... its been a right pain in the arse. Think ill wait for CM9

Ah bugger, I've always found hissy fits and boot loops can be overcome with a wipe of the data and cache partitions, might be worth a try if you haven't been doing it.

I always do that when installing custom roms, Getting apps back is simple with this, so its no big loss. Ive given up on CM7 now. I went from 3 to 10 on my rooting tally. still just Boot loops no matter what I do. Others have suggested installing the zip twice, but that doesnt help either for me.

Never had any issues with installing custom roms until I put that ICS version on...
