They sat down with their parents and had a frank conversation. They were worried about their Dad's reaction mainly but he was very supportive and their Mum said she just loves them and wants them to be happy.

I have only worn a watch that can take a beating but if got broken or lost wouldn't upset me that much. As such I just went with the flow with a Gshock, had a few different models over my army career.
I guess because everyone had them it made it easy to sync timings and get shit done the way they wanted it.

But I always wanted a Luminox.

I don't see how you can bend your wrist with a watch facing inwards. I wouldn't find that comfortable, especially with gloves on.

Officer mate reckons he does it so it doesn't reflect the sun. Still doesn't explain why he wears it that way when at the pub though. I love giving him shit about such things.

Typical Rupert... Probably cams up his ass to take a shit? I always wore gloves with the cuff over the watch face. After wearing a watch, everyday for 8 years I am enjoying not wearing one now.

I am looking for a nice ladies watch the other half, any suggestions?

Apparently it cost more than a mid size home in the burbs.

It is a Zenith Class Traveller Repetition Minutes

Apparently retails for US$420000 the only figure that I could find.

Umm, I dont mean to be out of line here, but this is just about knowing the time isn't it?

I don't own one. My car / phone / laptop / ipad / computer / radio all seem to let me know what time it is.

Every time i'm out at the shops I have a squiz at the watches, when I get to the Tag section they always seem a cut above in their design... at least to me they are. I reckon I've picked mine out. Hopefully next year.

No.

If you want to know the time you don't have to wear an expensive watch. You don't have to wear a watch at all.

Certain watches are very collectible. Brands like Patek-Philippe, Rolex, Breguet, Jaeger Lecoultre, Girard-Perregaux, Vacheron and Zenith hold their value extremely well but cost an awful lot of money. They are investment pieces which you buy and put into a safe while they accrue value. Next level down you find brands like Breitling* and Omega which also hold their value well but are more affordable.

You'll say "But what's the use of that?" Well, it's quite simple; rich people need a place to park their money away from the tax man. Lindsay Fox is worth a couple of billion dollars. He probably owns over a thousand cars, including things like a Ferrari F40, a couple of Mercedes SLRs and a Jaguar XJR15.

How many of them do you reckon he actually drives? Very few. It's a way of indulging in something he enjoys as well as keeping the ATO off his back.

Watches are the same idea (and I know his sons are into them).

It's not about how many diamonds are around the case. It's about how much craftsmanship goes into each movement. A tourbillon movement, for example, is handmade and cannot be had for under $100,000 but would you really buy it to tell the time when a battery watch can do it more accurately? Of course not.

That said, I have not worn a battery watch in at least 12 years. I like the idea that a movement powered by a mainspring can keep very good time. I love the engineering in it.

By the way, Charlie Sheen was wearing a Patek-Philippe worth nearly $200,000 when he got all messed up a while ago:

http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2 ... -timepiece" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In spite of what the article says, it was not "diamond encrusted" - that's not Patek-Philippe's style. The case is platinum instead.

* That's pronounced "BRIGHT-ling", not "Brit-ling" or "Breet-ling" or any other permutation.

I don't have anything pricey at the moment. But for me, there's just something nice about the aesthetics of an analogue timepiece in this digital age.
