Installing a speedo question

I just got a cateye vel05 speedo/computer for my mountain bike and does it matter how far the wheel magnet sits from the hub or rim? There's nothing in the instructions about this and I was going to put it on half up a spoke between the hub and rim.

Depending on the chain stay might be a factor. Really. Anywhere you can get the magnet to pass with in a few mm of the sensor should be fine.

Mine is about 70% from the hub if that helps.
