Looks in favour of a reset so far. My poor mooshrooms will get lonely after such an epic journey to find them!
It's a shame more people didn't get to experience our Nether path, that was epic!

hey guys have just installed minecraft with 1.0.0 and found theres no sound when i hit blocks etc, but cows make noise, any ideas whats gone wrong?

No idea, MC can be quirky like that, Raz on the server mentioned he has a sound problem similar and to fix it he has to close the client and start it again to get the sounds back.

That didnt fix it for me lol. I went into the resources folder and opened a few sound files then it worked after that. Weird lol

Raz found a fix for his sounds problems, he was telling me how MC ships with outdated openAL dlls, if you install openAL for Windows and then rename the openAL dlls in the resources folder it should fix the problem, sounds similar to what you might have done, by touching something in the resource directory Windows learnt about a dll.

The diamond cubes do seem a little more prevalent, I found a couple myself last night too. Maybe notch did massage the terrain generation a little between 1.9 pre 5 and 1.0.0
