Re: Your 2012 Cycling Goals.
Despite people here and other cycling friends telling me how I am gonna love cycling once I get fitter - I just can't see the enjoyment. Give me a couch and a beer instead any day! But.. I need to off set said couch and beer days, so I will continue to try riding to work at the very least once a week. Coupled with the odd weekend ride here and there, and I reckon I may be able to hit 2000km's for the year.
But probably not

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Goals.
Oh, my goals for this year...
-> do 2000k's, fell well short last year, takes a while to hit seeing as an average 2 hour singletrack ride only covers about 25 to 30k's if your lucky.
-> Ride interstate (already done, Buller)
-> compete in the Kona 24 hour again, but with no stoppages. Last year the whole team decided to sleep from about 3am to 6am, we also stopped about an hour before the finish as we all couldn't be stuffed and wanted Pizza.
-> compete in a 6 hour endurance race Solo. This will be towards the end of the year.
-> Get to a point where no climb in Adelaide causes me to stop for a breather, I am almost there now so hopefully that's not far off, and after riding at Buller, every climb in Adelaide seems small.
-> Lose a shitload of weight. I'm a fuckload fitter now days than a year ago, but I've dropped maybe 10kg and that's it, I am still weighing in over 100kg's, losing at least another 10 will make riding a lot easier.
-> Continue in the involvement and planning of SA's 1st ever Enduro themed event, the red tape is insane, and in the grand scheme of things, we have not even gotten close to it happening.
-> Not buy any new bikes (although I kind of would not mind failing this one).

Probably quite modest goals for me, many being a continuation of what i did last year.
more than 5000km total for the year
continue racing Cyclocross
continue racing Cyclosportif
complete community ride - Ride Like Crazy (100km)
complete community ride - TDU Challenge Tour (138km)
complete community ride - Velo Adelaide (110 km)
complete community ride - Amy's Ride (100km)
enter a Time Trial (pencilled in for the 4th March)
enter a mass start road race (likely to be the Hector Fletcher Road race in August)
Take part in the BikeSA Grandslam series
return to Checker Hill and ride it without a stop :P
*maybe* enter a XC MTB event
*maybe* race track
purchase Pinarello .. could be a nice 40th birthday prezzie to myself

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Goals.
Carl, if you want to run an XC event, I'd suggest the AMTBC summer series, it's a lot more relaxed and shorter loops too.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Goals.
I think the weekends of my entire summer are already booked out with cycling event of some description already! lol.. not sure how that happened. I don't think i've ever seen my calendar look so full.. looking at the dates, i think that i have stuff on already booked.Hz-Lab wrote:Carl, if you want to run an XC event, I'd suggest the AMTBC summer series, it's a lot more relaxed and shorter loops too.
As i posted. it's a "maybe" .. what sort of events do they run in winter? though i reckon i need to get some more trail km under my belt before i line up for a race. Suspect my skills aren't quite up to scratch just yet!

I used to have knee issues, Rotor Q-rings and Speedplay zero pedals helped me quite a lot.DarrenM wrote: Ride > 50km without having knee issues.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Goals.
I will be getting on it this year. I have moved locations for 6 months, starting Monday. It's a 20km ride each way. So my plan is to get on the push bike for work days.
How are you guys tracking your km's? On board or is it tracked manually?

If you just have a trip computer or need to put them in manually then try http://www.bikejournal.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you have a gps device, including smartphones, then you could use http://www.strava.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Right, strava it is. I had looked at the site after Vil asked Norbs about it, looks very good. Will investigate that.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Goals.
Well believe it or not my cycling goals are pretty ordinary compared to what I am normally like.
Simply they are ride at least 12,000km's and enjoy every moment I am on the bike....
As for specific events & racing, I'm still unsure of what I want or will be doing. I am just going to suck it & see as the year progessess.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Goals.
I want to do at least 1500km's and just ride more, see where it takes me. I love to run but think I need to ride more to improve my fitness when I'm off my feet.
Have to get the legs into gear, at the moment they don't like it at all!
