wow! they're extremely lucky... but seriously, it would take a 'special' person to be there in the first place! *sigh*

wow! that's incredible! Imagine the composure you'd have to keep with a crash like that... keep the camera still while snapping, and hope you don't get hit by debris!

That is one massive delta wing. Is this the one they were restoring a few years back? I think I donated to it. Funny how the Vulcan really captured the publics imagination in a way the Victor and Valiant never did. I always liked the Victor more... it looks totally 50s futuristic to me. I guess the Vulcan did the Port Stanley bombing which helped elevate its appeal.

Re: cool pics thread
Okay.
1) F/A-18F Superhornet with a colleague of mine in the back seat,
2) C-27 Spartan, recently chosen as the RAAFs Caribou replacement. It's a development of a 1960s Alenia design. The pilot was a complete lunatic and barrel rolled it,
3) I don't think this one needs any explanation,
4) F/A-18A Hornet.
All were taken at either the 2009 or 2011 Australian International Airshow. The Exif data is still contained in the shots so you can get the detail that way.
The last one is about 11 years ago. I was approached to do a flight in a MiG-15 for a news story. I was reasonably happy to do it, despite the fact that the aircraft was very old and had no bang seat. It turned out to be probably the best 10 minutes I've ever had with my clothes on. Pulled 5G without a G-suit and that's why I get cynical about claims made for F-1. 5G hurts. Whatever the case, It was at the back of my mind that, despite the parachute I was wearing, if the wing fell off this thing, I was going in with it.

That will be sorely missed... sad I didn't get to see a launch.
Still, I'm sure I'll see SOMETHING launch in front of my in my lifetime. although it'll probably be much less dramatic, and look more like a plane.
An Elevator just wouldn't cut it, but would be very efficient.

I love that shot of the F-15 next to the launch. Just imagine watching from that vantage point.

We are off to LA on Friday and thought we'd missed that, but I read this morning it'll still be on the move. We have to go and see that!
I'm rather excited
Edit: then again, we will miss it after all. Bugger
