Hey all,

Sold my old ipad on ebay, and buyer has paid me using paypal however he has obviously used his credit card as I have been hit with the $11 fee.

Just wondering, do you think it's OK for me to ask for him to pay the gap now?

That isnt just your paypal fee is it?

I dont see the difference in how a payment method can see you worse off.

He has paid $482, the agreed price - that is what comes off his card, though Im not sure you can tell what his payment method is, and you pay paypal.

I could be totally wrong. Im not a power user by any means

That "fee" is just paypals slice of the pie.

Take it on the chin and in future, settle on a price then add $20 for those greedy fucks at ebay.

Thanks guys. More fees than you can poke a stick at with eBay.

I'm pretty sure there is no fee if they used bank transfer Paypal etc... Oh well.

It's standard practice, last time I checked PayPal charge 3.4% merchant fee on credit card transactions, it's up to you if accept it or issue a refund, bear in mind with a cc they can reverse the charge up to 60 days later and PayPal will just direct debit it from your account so don't use an account you keep money in all the time.

Really? So what's stopping the buyer from doing that after I send him the item? Or should I wait 60 days before sending

I don't know what you can do about it, make sure you send it registered post with a signature on delivery requirement, then you at least have something to show to Paypal if it all goes to shit.
