850kms in 6 days in 6 months.
Well, I thought it would be good to have a training log for Rod and I to try and stick to for the ride in Sept.
I am aiming at building up my monthly totals to about 1000kms in August, then having a couple of lean weeks before the actual ride.
I will probably only get 700kms in this month. But aim to do 800kms in April and May. 900 in June and July and then 1000kms in August.
Sound about right Duke? Carlos?

Re: 850kms in 6 days in 6 months.
Ramping up the km like you have planned looks like a good idea. An extra 100km per month seems like a reasonable task given the enormous challenge ahead of you.
Possibly most important is to get ample saddle time. Doing 150km or so in a day and then getting back on the bike the next day to do it all again is a tough ask for anyone who isn't prepared both physically and mentally. I know that i feel pretty wiped out after a longish (~100km) ride through the Adelaide Hills, and can't recall ever having done it 2 days running.
A group out of adelaide is doing a similar ride right now.. ride for repat .. see here for one guys blog to see his prep and the conditions they faced heading out of Adelaide.
Knowing that you can keep the legs ticking over is probably a huge help mentally, and i think the only way you can get the confidence to do that is to have a vast number of base km under your belt...

Re: 850kms in 6 days in 6 months.
not sure about the rider out so wide , but all the other shots i've seen they've been riding a pretty tight 2 abreast formation. In fact, it's only a pair up front which seem to be out of formation on that shot. If i recall they have a support vehicle in front and behind, with appropriate warning for approaching driversnorbs wrote:Will keep an eye on his site. Woodsy should to.

Good. Not getting the riding in I would have liked, this unemployment business certainly has cut into my riding time. God knows how!CLP wrote:So with about a month to go, How are we tracking?
I will call you in a fortnight Carl and organise the details.
Looking forward to it.

hadn't heard too much about it recently, so wasn't sure if it'd put a bit of a dent into your plans. good to hear it hasn't! pity there's no CX on that weekend.. that'd make for an awesome background for an ARSE meet.. beer, bbq, heckling.. all of our favourite things plus cowbellnorbs wrote:Good. I might need to make some sort of effort to work out where all the bikes are gonna go.. this may involve tidying the garage
