Re: Speedy internet!
Got NBN on the other week. It's FTTC in this area. It has been nice to go from 10mb/s to about 45mb/s during peak. Sits at 55mb/s off peak. Considering the cost to tax payers I do think it's a pretty subpar speed though.

Re: Speedy internet!
Is that on a 100mbit plan? I would call that subpar as well if that's the case.

At least your connection won't lose 13Mb/s just because it rained....

Re: Speedy internet!
Greetings from the NBN.
So I got a text from Telstra saying plug it all in @ 1:30 pm today. But the chick on the phone Monday said "oh you can't connect till we send a tech guy around on the 11th of Jan". Anyway it's now warp 5 for me. I wen't from 1.2 MB/sec download to currently 5.60 MB/sec and my ping is about 9. I am connected via wifi and still using an N300 adaptor (802.11n). I will get an 802.11 ac adaptor seeing the layout of the house wont let use Ethernet. But all in all it's fine as is.

Their system probably doesn't realise you had the NCD supplied already.Dr. Pain wrote:"oh you can't connect till we send a tech guy around on the 11th of Jan"
Either way... Enjoy it
My FTTN connection has been dropping out every 6 or so hours and losing attainable sync rate each time. From 45 down to 29 currently.

Earlier today, it was revealed that the company building Australia’s National Broadband Network is exploring making the fastest consumer NBN plan a business-only offering, and developing a new plan for residential customers.

Nothing would surprise me anymore with that fuck up of a company.
From what i read on the Twitters, it is mainly a cut to upload speeds. The very thing I want to be faster LOL

Re: Speedy internet!
Not so speedy internet here. Had a storm front come through 5:30 pm on Saturday and no power for 7 1/2 hours. No nbn since the storm. So I go to phone hotspot and just having a shit time of getting web pages to load. Helps to change the DNS and I only just thought of that before. The nbn can't connect, got a red light on connection but it's knocked out the cordless phone too. So people can call but I can't call back. Hopefully the tech guy coming tomorrow can sort it out cause at my end, everything is fine, just can't get out.

Re: Speedy internet!
I don't think i will change to NBN. My house is now available to be connected but i don't think it's worth all the headaches people seem to have.
It seems better to stay with Optus 4G at the moment.

Re: Speedy internet!
I haven't had any issues with nbn until this storm hit but it was nothing like we've seen here. I'm FTTC and have not been able to find fault with it other than one time it was out for 3 hours or so. But I also know that 4G works well too and the speeds are good.

Re: Speedy internet!
It depends on what kind of NBN you can expect. "Most" issues come from the dogshit that is FTTN. FTTP, FTTC and even HFC are great.somebloke wrote:I don't think i will change to NBN. My house is now available to be connected but i don't think it's worth all the headaches people seem to have.

Plug your address into here: https://www.nbnco.com.au/connect-home-o ... ur-address
Look under "Technology used in your connection" and it'll let you know.

Re: Speedy internet!
Ah cheers I have HFC.
The NBN box is on the outside wall and connected now.
The wire from it doesn’t appear to go into the house though (just hanging loose).
Would the ISP resolve that or would it need an electrician to run it into the house where we would want it to go?

Re: Speedy internet!
I've had NBN for a couple of years now and never had an issue apart from a few brief disconnections in the early days with TPG. 2 years ago we switched to Aussie Broadband and I've not had a single disconnection.

Re: Speedy internet!
The last part of the fit off would be done by an NBN tech. They'll also need to supply you with the Arris CM8200 Modem which you connect your router into. Choosing an RSP to get the ball rolling is the first step.somebloke wrote:Would the ISP resolve that or would it need an electrician to run it into the house where we would want it to go?
Aussie Broadband is the NBN lovechild atm. Have the highest scores for customer service (all Australian based). Someone like Woodsy could give you a referral code.

Re: Speedy internet!
My fault is now fixed. What happened was the storms tripped a switch in the old copper network and the nbn connection box freaked out as it was seeing two networks.

Re: Speedy internet!
Put an order in for NBN today. lets see how big of a clusterfuck this turns into.
I ended up buying a D-Link Taipan AC3200 NBN ready modem off a guy at work who ordered NBN then got booted out of his rental place. I am interested to hear what modems people are running and what is good and bad, in case this thing is a dud. Was only $50, so fingers crossed.
